Will review unit reviews go up around the time Gateway 3DS gives the preorder goahead (15th?)

So they are locked to the region of the rom I was just making sure that it wasnt locked to the cart.

isn't that one in the same? either way you are locked to the region of the 3ds. this is due to the nature of how the 3ds functions and the fact that this kit mimics an actual cart.

we were told that review kits would ship about a few days before the carts went on sale, not pre-sale. you probably shouldn't wait for the review if you want to stock up before they sell out.

So, will this help open the door to CFW or a Homebrew Channel? I mean, surely these guys figured out something about getting the 3DS to boot something.

Hey guys long time no see. Havent touched my ds in a long time and wasnt really interested in the 3ds (switched mostly to pc gaming). But there are a few interesting games coming out (smash brossss), so im looking into one. Glad to know progress has been made towards hacking it. Looking forward to see what becomes of it.

Nope. All they "figured out" is booting official, already signed content. Unless it's got Nintendo's signature, it ain't gonna run.

Hopefully, though, it'll inspire people to get off their butts (yes, I know I have contributed nothing, but that's because I know nothing) and find an exploit.

It's still a step in the right direction. Getting official software to be loaded off sized-to-scale third-party hardware is a huge boon as it's one of the first steps to getting unsigned content to load. I know it's nowhere near as big a hurdle as either acquiring the key or circumventing it altogether, but it is just as important.

I'm fairly certain that at least a dozen of these will be disassembled and studied by the devs already working on the 3ds.

To me this this is not something I'd buy, but more be happy that progression such as this has occurred. I must have played my 3DS about 3 times since I bought it over a year ago now, so knowing that a useful flashcard is on the horizon might make me start using it again.

Plus after reading up on Nintendo direct it seems as though there are some brilliant games coming out , so maybe a few game purchases and a flashcart is on the horizon for me:)

The devs already working on the 3DS will have zero interest in these things and almost certainly will not be giving them a penny. Those devs already know as much as would be required to do something like this, and if they haven't done so privately already, it's because it's of no use to them (which tbh, I suspect to be the case).

80 bucks for this? it doesnt even get past region lock dammit
guess ill wait for our chinese cloners friends
they may even include a save dumper dongle

Aside from the fact that this is the first 3DS flashcart what makes this 80 dollars? is it made from top quality plastic? or does it have the highest grade metal? is it the man hours of how much work put into making it? (I'm being sarcastic btw)

Well, this new card has the latest anti-sarcasm transistors built in. That's definitely why.

Look at flash carts for anything other than the DS. It's about what they cost.

People seem to have a hard time differentiating between DS and 3DS. That's probably the biggest source of the most complaints. Well, that and the anti-anything-that-may-even-remotely-lead-to-piracy people.

....Really?
No homebrew. OK. Well it can play backups.

Wait, can I dump my backups from the store onto it?
...probably not?

Oh, and it only holds a single game at a time?

So this is literally ONLY a piracy tool and we're hopping behind it?

Now, shovelware will come either way, and yada yada yada. (seriously, go look in walmart) I'm not arguing piracy is bad.... but the only thing this cart will load is 3ds roms, one at a time. No convenience angle, costs more than a 3ds game, and I've purchased every 3ds game I wanted to play (stupidly, almost all on the 3ds store; I really DO NOT like having to change freaking cards)

seriously, a single game at a time is nothing more that extremely rudimentary piracy.

I can't be the only one hoping for Tyrian3D and other neat stuff with the 3ds's wizardpowers, can I?

EDIT:
OH GOOD GOD AND 3D EMULATORS. this thing could TAKE DOWN my psp as my handheld emu, and good lord, imagine if we can build a 3ds snes emu that can take advantage of the 3d for different layers, imagine yoshis island with pop and etc.

SERIOUSLY. THIS CARD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I agree with you on this. I have 5 3DS games that i haven't finished yet and Kid Icarus (finished but i still play it). So no need to rush to piracy for now...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's locked to the region of the cartridge itself it would mean that you'd need a EUR, JPN and US Gateway for each respective 3DS, if it's just locked to the ROM it'd mean that the Gateway 3DS itself is region free.

I received an interesting Email by Gateway3DS.
They told me the Card will get a UI after the release.
Maybe then we can play more Games with ONE SD Card.

Email :
"i forward your answer for tech team. There will be a UI, but not at launch. If
our tech team is interested in support we will get back to you."

Thats what I was trying to get at, as I have both a 3DSLL and a 3DS XL so i didnt want to buy 2 carts
