Here we go.

Automatically "gake and fay" - the only developers who currently have working exploits are neimod, yellows8 and the 3DBrew crew, there can be no "game manager" unless it's going to run in DS-Mode, which would complicate things big time.

If it does turn out to be real though, this might be a good reason for me to buy a 3DS. If not, Nintendo will have to wait a little longer before they get my money. :P

I was just asking a question, not making drama about the issue. Since I wasn't stating how I felt about the matter one way or the other, what's it's matter to you? Since you wanted to know, I will not be paying to support piracy. I will not be getting into a debate or lecture about it. It is, what it is.
Ahh my bad. Thought you were one of those self-entitled "herpderp gimme hax na0" guys who whine about everything. Automatically assumed your query had a sarcastic tone to it XD

ODE modchips (wode, xk3y, 3k3y, ...) works almost the same and they are still working great (include online play), so who and how they will block this new cart emulator?

Damn im so happy right now

It's Drive Emulation. They bypass the entire DVD Drive. It doesn't work the same way... You can't bypass the Card slot with a Gamecard.

man the dvd driver board are inside the driver, on the 3ds is part of the cart, this is not a psvita, its an 3ds, works the same in n64

Seems pretty cool, hopefully this is real!
But i think i'm just gonna wait untill there is a software hack out (if it will ever come out in the public).

I have a feeling there won't be a software hack for a while. But really what I wanted to say was cool avatar. Lol

Heya! Lurker/Newbie here. Can't believe how many regular posters are asking questions that are obvious. I've been in contact with someone who's known about this for a while now, and can assure you it's real. I can also assure you that it blows ass and won't be worth purchasing unless you're extremely desparate.

Here's a little FAQ for you.

*Is this real?
Short answer: Yes. This is a real product and will really allow you to play 3DS ROMS on your 3DS unit.

*How does this work?
It's a tiny bit more complicated than this, but I'm dumbing it down so that everyone can understand. Basically, this is a shell for an SD card slot which tricks the 3DS into thinking that the SD card is the game cart. By putting the ROM into the SD card, and the SD card into the shell, you've essentially created a 1:1 copy of a retail game; a bootleg.

*What does that mean for the user?
A couple things. The SD card has to be the correct size for the ROM. If you have a 2gb ROM you need a 2gb SD card, and so on. You cannot use a larger card than the ROM you're using, which also means that there's no way to store more than one ROM on the card at a time. Additionally, the save files are stored on the cart shell itself, as the spot for that is standardized. This means that if you change the ROM, the new game will see that information as a corrupted save and delete it. You'll need to back up your save files before switching ROMs, and you may need additional hardware to do so.

*Can it run homebrew?
Nope. This won't allow you to run unsigned code. The cart is set up in such a fashion that you've created a 1:1 copy of a retail cart. That is, it's signed by Nintendo already, and that's why you can run it.

*Can it get around region blocking?
Nope. For the same reason listed above, you'll still need to use the correct region's ROM for your hardware, and won't be able to play any ROMS of games that haven't been released in your hardware's region. You also can't modify the ROMs without stripping the Nintendo signature and thus making this method no longer work.

*But since the 3DS can't tell the difference between this and a real cart, it means Nintendo can't block it with an update, right?
No. Nintendo can and will block this device. Currently, the 3DS can't tell the difference. However, it's just not being instructed to check the right things. There's plenty Nintendo can do to identify this device. For only one example, they can check the read speed of the cart and see that it isn't the same as an official card.

Worse, since ROMs can't be modified, Nintendo also can and will simply include the update on future game carts, making it impossible to play those games with the device since doing so would force an update that made it no longer function.

*So what will I need in order to use this to full effect?
You'll need:
1) The device itself
2) One MicroSD card to standard SD card adaptor for your computer, or a USB card reader device with a MicroSD card slot.
3) One MicroSD card of every standard 3DS ROM size - 512mb, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB
4) A method of getting save data off the cart, storing it for later, and putting it back on the cart (an R4i save dongle, for instance).

*Will this open any doors for better versions in the future?
Nope. Again, because it's running 1:1 copies, and can't run any modified or unsigned code, it won't be leading to better technology on its own. It will, however, serve to motivate those that are currently working to crack that nut in two ways: First, because someone is out there getting a piece of the pie already and potentially eating their sales, and second because people will be unhappy with the complicated way this one works and demand for a proper system will increase.

You sure look like you don't know exactly how Game Cards work? There's a Card reader slot on all of the consoles you mentioned, you know, something that reads code from Cards. The Game Card only has code inside of it. Only code. Nothing more.

I mean how in the hell you'd put a "Drive" inside a game card? You're basically saying the card reads itself and the 3DS does nothing...

I think the price will be a lot more than the DSTWO even if its just a 1:1 copy.

the first R4's where $80, this will more likely go into the 100's easily

DSTwo is more advanced as it emulates the chips for its 1:1 mode, so the DSTwo is more powerful than it needs to be

but its pointless comparing as 3DS cart hardware is different to DS cart hardware by a massive ammount

Let's keep it english, it's an english board.

The chips mentioned by the poster he was quoting work by emulating a disc drive, cutting that hardware out of the process entirely. That can't be done using this sort of setup, because this is a device that is inserted into the card slot. You can't emulate a card slot from software running on a card. I'm pretty sure that's what he was trying to get at, things just got lost in translation.

Kinda. I was arguing with him because he thought the "Drive" for 3DS is inside the game cards, and he also claimed that's how it was for the N64 too. He was saying that flashcard was using Drive Emulation.

Just what I thought. This kind of hardware for 360 costs around a 100 so i guess this would also cost around the same(at least right now) and given that they are the only ones right now, monopoly will be there.

congratulations, you took all my posts and combined them into 1 lol

hehe so they would make a sd-like cart, like in psvita. <snip>

I bet you this'll be a one hit wonder block for Nintendo and watch it fall to the wayside like the CycloDSi nice concept though btw I thought Nintendo blocked rom dumpers for dumping 3DS roms or am I mistaken?

indeed, will be blocked and only previous stuff will work and this will just be that expensive piece of kit that cant even play X & Y and newer games will block it on your 3DS

Nintendo didnt block rom dumpers, they just stopped the console reading/writing if the card was swapped out or lost connection

Interesting, but meh. As long as the save system is as presumed (1 save only, backup needed for more saves), it's plainly a bootleg device. It's not even worth the convenience of the DS flashcarts (multiple games on one cart). Regardless of the fact that some people will like the idea, it has little use for the larger crowd. Especially at this point of the 3DS's life where buying the few games you want won't cost that much compared to the probable high price of this "flashcart" (and yes, the 3DS has games, just not that many compared to the DS for example).

i dont think GotyOpa, a admin of PS3chrunch would lie about hoax if he didnt know it.
I mean PS3Chrunch is fairly good known among the ps3 scene so why should he destroy their creditablity for hoax?
Just saying and if i am not confusing them with another site xd
