Hacking Gateway 3DS bricking handheld?

I was thinking about getting a Gateway 3DS card and I thought I heard it bricked some people's 3Ds consoles...

So I was wondering are there any precautions I should know about before I slide this into my 3DS?

It's fine now. That was the 2.x firmware of Gateway. They're on 3.4 now. No brick code there.

Just before you buy, and in case you don't know.
Almost everything that can be done with a Gateway card, can be done without it using CFW today.
If you knew it, that's OK. If you didn't, perhaps you should think if you still want to buy it.

^^ This. The only benefit Gateway has is .3ds support. And even that is getting ported.
