I will be starting college in a little over a week and am hoping to get into some new games now that i have a fairly good quality laptop that can actually run most games ( at least according to "Can You Run It", haven't encountered anything I can't run yet).

I am wondering if anyone can give me suggestions for any games that I can get as it looks like I will have a fair bit of free time on Mondays, I have 4 hours between classes and on Fridays I will be done at noon.

I have mostly been a rpg gamer, but have tried a few rts games like Rise of Nations but it's been a long time. I haven't really played any shooters as my old computer couldn't run any.

My specs are:

i5-processor at 2.27 GHz
GeForce 310M video card
4 GB DDR3 Ram (may be DDR2 but I am 90% sure it's 3)

It is DDR3, if it's an i5. StarCraft II is good.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Borderlands
Portal
Assassins Creed 2 (May be too heavy on processor to run full settings)
Transformers War For Cybertron
Half Life 2
Mafia 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (May be too heavy on processor to run well)

(If you find out you can't run those games then try the ones highlighted green I can run those on full, and the ones highlighted red I can run on lower settings but I have worse video card specs.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that I will play Starcraft II but first I will likely play through the first one. I've also been kind of looking at getting half life 2 and portal for a while and have also kind of would like to try borderlands.

I'd suggest making a Steam account. They have mid-week sales (called Mid-Week Madness!) and weekend sales, and not just tiny ones, but usually 50-80% off the advertised game. Great way to save tons of money on games, and the complete lack of packaging is better for the environment and less space-intensive for folks short on space like myself. Plus you can re-download your purchases on any future computer.

You mentioned Half-Life 2, Portal, and Borderlands. I joined Steam when Portal was being given away for FREE, bought Half-Life 2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2 for $8.81 during the summer sale, and bought Borderlands + all 3 DLC packs 2 weeks ago for $20.36. If you just keep an eye open, you can find plenty of absolutely crazy deals on Steam.

I suggest Mafia II, Starcraft II and Fallout 3.

Assassin's Creed II is one my favorite games but I played it on PS3.
You can play it on your PC too though lol.

A.V.A. = Alliance of Valiant Arms = MMOFPS
LoL = League of Legends = Tactics/Strategy

I recommend those two games the most, out of the other games I play.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BigOnYa, The worst part when buying 360's at GameStop, is that they bolt the heatsinks down.
