I don't know if this is the place to post this topic but i'll post it here anyway...

What is the most efficient way to organize my game folder, I'm really tired of my cluttered game folder and i want your opinion on how to fix it.

Organize it yourself(rename it properly AND include country((U),(J),etc.)) or use a program.

All of my games are (U)
what do you mean by renaming it properly...all of my games are organized like this --> xxxx - name.nds
What program do you speak of?

What flash cart? Some have the ability to display the actual ROM data title instead of the filename, like you'd see when you put it in an actual DS.

If you mean folders, you can put an exclamation point before a folder name to make it show up at the top of the list, since it comes before "A". X3

If your games are only one region, you can just sort them by type. kinda like this:

I just make a separate folder for every NDS game, with the name of the game as title.
So Mario Kart DS.nds in a folder called Mario Kart DS.
And the .sav file will be created there too.

Well i got 'em organized like that:

Homebrew
Learning games(for japanese coach)
Testing (for games just to try out, then i wipe the whole folder at the end of the week or copy games that i liked)
Random (all other games)

You can copy your nds files to the root directory, or place them in subdirectories. For example you could have a directory for each game genre (Adventure, RPG, racing etc), by alphabetical (A-C,D-F,G-I etc) or just put them all in a games directory.
  • This batch file will create alphabetical directories inside a games directory. Download and extract to the root directory of your MicroSD card, then double click on makedir.
  • This batch file will create genre directories inside a games directory. Download and extract to the root directory of your MicroSD card, then double click on makedir.

  • the first will create directories called:

    Games\#
    Games\A-C
    Games\D-F
    Games\G-I
    Games\J-L
    Games\M-O
    Games\P-R
    Games\S-U
    Games\V-Z

    the second will create directories:

    Games\Action
    Games\Crime Solving
    Games\Dress-Up
    Games\Adventure
    Games\Animal
    Games\Arcade
    Games\Board Games
    Games\Card Battle
    Games\Compilation
    Games\Drawing
    Games\Edutainment
    Games\Fighting
    Games\FPS
    Games\Jigsaw
    Games\Mini Games
    Games\Music
    Games\Other
    Games\Casino
    Games\Party Games
    Games\Pet
    Games\Platformer
    Games\Pokemon
    Games\Puzzle
    Games\Racing
    Games\Role Playing
    Games\JRPG
    Games\Simulation
    Games\Shooter
    Games\Shoot 'Em Up
    Games\Sports
    Games\Strategy
    Games\Virtual Life
    Games\Retro

ROM managers such as RToolDS will list the genre for each game.

I just have two folders on my flashcart, one is named Homebrew (for homebrew games and apps), and the other one is named Games (for NDS games). Sure, it may be a little disorganized, but i think it's better than navigating through a maze of folders.

  • Thanks a lot i'll just use the first one since i'd forget all those genres easily.
