G6RealUSBReader.jpg

Several months ago, my reader (the solid black casing version similar to what is pictured) died. The card is fine, as I had it tested with another local owner, so let's not go off point about this fact. I'm not certain as to what exactly is wrong with the reader. The information about malfunctions is vague and scattered across many forums. I'm trying to learn from anyone who has personally suffered this defect as to how it could be solved or fixed.

There is also another solution possible that I've been told. There is an off-market clone of the G6 Real that uses the same, exact reader. I presently cannot find the product's name or where it is sold. If I could find out what it is, perhaps I could contact a vendor of it and seek ordering a reader from one. Also, if anyone here has a "spare" reader (your G6 Real having died and what not), then I may be interested in speaking with you in private about procuring yours for my use.

Before anyone asks, I do not have any plans to sell my G6 DS Real once fixing or replacing my reader. Thanks in advance for any worthwhile input into this matter.

I'm afraid I can't help with a source for a new reader..
There was a thread about this very issue a while ago - read it here
but we didn't come to any conclusions.

For people reading this with a reader which sometimes seems to work & sometimes not....
I do think I've finally figured out a way to get my very temperamental reader to work EVERY time it seems.
Sometimes when I plugged in my reader, the light on the top would stay ON & the card would not mount on my computer.
I've found that by inserting the G6 cart into the reader and then pulling it out slightly, I can get it to mount every time!!

Like this - if you are looking at the reader from the side with the light on it
and pull the G6 cart out just enough that you can get a credit card into the gap
between the reader and the 'lip' around the indentation where the pins are on the cart.
that seems to work for me.

Good luck.

I sorta tilt mine so that it doesn't go in quite straight, but rather about 1 or 2 degrees off. It reads for me quite reliably... Until one of the pins inside the reader broke. lol (And then I returned it to my friend.
