I got a couple Wii U's. I want to mod one and put the other up as a backup. Curious whats the best route to take to do it? Was thinking install latest update, create a new NNID on the second Wii U and download its own DS game?

If I wait till Nintendo releases a update before doing it, it probably won't be possible to get a DS game without updating right?

It's been said over and over many times, update to 5.5.1 while you can, so update them now.

Haxchi is only the current way of installing a permanent method of HBl using DS VC titles without using the browser and is now updated to a coldboot version.

There maybe other methods later on, yet if you want homebrew/backups without using the online/offline selfhosting way, now is your chance, in case N drops a update.

Do you need an Nintendo id if you're downloading a ds game via a prepaid card? Also if you're already on 551 do you need to block anything at the moment ?

I ask as my console is always offline and ice never used the eshop before.

Do ally do you need a particular game or will any ds title do?

1) Block DNS's. There are already guides to do this. Shouldn't matter I think with a NID or not with prepaid cards, if so create one anyway.

2) Look at the Haxchi list of games. Brain Training/Aid is one of them.

Great, just wondering why would you need to block DNS if its a one off use as 551 is the latest official firmware?

And as I said earlier my console is usually OFFLINE.
Easy trigger. I was only trying to help. If it's usually offline then set up blocking anyway. You can still play games online if you want to and since you said usually it would really suck if you took your console online at exactly the time that N was pushing a new update.

But hey, turn off blocking if you want. Won't be the first time somebody got accidentally updated because of no blocking. Don't say we didn't warn ya

I'm just playing pal :D I don't have a net connection at home hence the lack of online so I'd be taking the console elsewhere to get the game and whatnot hence why I queried but your update comment does make sense.

Better get on it.

Isn't coolboot + HBL a bit more risky than Haxchi to use?

with the new CBHC, no not really, its slightly more risky but SO worth it.

Well, I already have Haxchi installed for HBL, I'm going to research it more to be sure if I want it installed or not, still a bit wary to be honest. I don't think it would benefit me per se, as I already have games installed via USB method and RetroArch :P

Yeah, but you could use CBHC to autoboot sigpatched sysmenu + wupserver, and install retroarch to your system menu!

Perhaps, but I would need to know the commands for Wupserver no? How could I update Haxchi to 2.2 or whatever version is the latest? *Sigh* I don't know man, I can't afford to brick it. Besides, I would
have to buy another exploitable game, can't afford that right now.

If you already have haxchi, you can run the CBHC installer to overwrite it, then set up autoboot to system menu (which automatically has wupserver/sigpatches) then just use WUPInstaller to install the channel version of the retroarch core you want!

Still wary, I don't know the true way to load the app, or the process yet, so I'll have to thoroughly read Fix94's guide to be sure I don't screw myself over. I think I'd rather wait till the stable RA release is out, 1.4.0 is supposed to be out in the near future.

Fair enough, I'll look into it, will likely try when the first official version of RetroArch is released.

You can also install another ds vc game and have a 2nd Haxchi that has the config.txt to shortcut other apps, as others perfer that too. Cbhc does not support the config.txt now.

Im new to all this so whats the safest best method? I'm also seeing several tutorial online. I've messed with several Wii's in the past.
