Wouldnt something like a paperclip be safe?

Knowing me I will short the wrong pins and fry the joycon rail.

No need to run before a train. We still need CFW and it's not done yet. I'm sure in day or month there will be a lot of video guides, so guys like you and me can make things correctly. Risk isn't worth right now for common users.

Don't need to put a lot of force. Literally just need to make a bridge (terminal name is jumper) between the 2 pins so that they short-circuit eachother and then you press vol+

Is pin 9-10 nearest to the screen or the back?

According to picture in https://github.com/dekuNukem/Nintendo_Switch_Reverse_Engineering
I believe pin 10 is closest to the back. (You get shown what appears to be a Joycon R, and by using your mind to rotate it onto the switch, it seems it will be at the back)

you can test it on you joycon if its out. you can see the pins of the joycons much better. if it easily touches two pins its safe to use.

I plan solder a wire between the pins internally, i think any paperclip our something to connect each other would be easy to fall!

It only has to be temporary, unless you dont want to grab a paper clip or wire to start the exploit.

Just took a look at the pins with a torch and dam they are small.
Defiantly going to take off the rail before attempting this :/

You don't need to keep them bridged. You only need to have them bridged for the moment you press Power + Vol Up. Once you do, it's in RCM and you can remove the wire/tool, put the JoyCon on, run the python script and be done.

Maybe if the fans are spinning but nothing on screen?
If the fans are not on, does running the python file do anything?

Make sure to plug in usb, and when its in rcm it has no display when turning it on.
