Success on my end using macOS and the Switch is on 4.0.1:

I didn't mod my JoyCon, just shorted the contacts in the rail on the Switch with this:

Not necessarily. I think the idea would be to use this hack to patch the siganture checks that are upstream of the bootrom. Sort of like B9S on the 3DS.

No, it was never the idea that you install any patches on the console. It was supposed to be a coldboot that loads cfw from sd.

Great solution, no need to mod joycon. Just need so tiny/middle wire and put it between 9 and 10 pins.
