Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

Toggling games by insertion instead of a different technique was obviously intentional in order to make more money out of fools.

Something I just realized. The dumper says it is only USB 2.0 USB C...why surely for the price they could have made it utilize USB 3 speeds for dumping
Maybe it was a license fee thing. I just read where usb 2.0 patents are expired, where as usb 3.0 patents are still enforced. But hard to imagine a Jailbreaking company, from RU even, cares about patents anyways.

Decided to check the prices of how much to get a modchip installed compared to the Mig-Switch
£75 for a Lite, £95 for an OLED vs £70 for a Mig-Switch
Currently it's likely not worth getting the flashcart and wont be until it drops in price.

Depends on what are you objective:

If you have a lot of original Cartridges and you like to play a lot online games and like to avoid the lost of your cartridges, you can use the MIG to put them on a SD Card and only have a Cartridge with your console.

If you only browse the seven seas, yeah a Modchip is the way.

I mean, I'm someone who owns a significant portion of games (over 60) and even then a modchip is more appealing to me. Given the ability to play mods, run CFW and use Android or Linux if I really wanted to, it gives far more freedom.

And the Mig-Switch requires either a modded Switch or it's dumper (for £70) to make legitimate dumps regardless.

Thank you for posting here and welcome to gbatemp. One question I have is when you insert the Mig into the Switch without a sd card in the Mig, does it show a cartridge inserted on the Switch screen, or possibly show an error screen?

you get a red light on the mig switch cart and you get an error the same one if you have dirty pins on a normal cart.
