Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

Seems a bit expensive for what it looks like (better get a modchip for twice that price), but some people won't bother and pay 70e to not be bothered.

Quite frankly, if you cannot share your own dumps I'm trying to figure out what purpose would this serve other than being strictly a pirating tool. Do pirates care about being abolished from online activity?

Mercari no longer active, Etsy no longer active, and only purchasing is a square space website. Simple to isolate to a specific city and state in the US. Even if it is real, I’d think the MigSwitch team would want good opsec from their sellers.

TX/SX is likely Chinese, Gary Bowser was just a PR guy. They never got the actual dev team.

Yep in fact Max Louran (French) has only had to pay a $8600 fine for not giving up his laptop encyption key, and the third suspect (assumed to be in China) has never been caught. Gary was just a fall guy for the team.

He has a lot of time to plan this while in jail.
Gary had almost nothing at all to do with the Switch mod. He mainly just advertised it. People think he developed it or something, not true.

Wow 8600 bucks to Max is like a drop in the bucket. I heard he was rich before he got into any of this stuff. :)

Well, I'm just assuming things here but I assume that this Russian product probably has the parts made in China and shipped to Russia for assembly then distributed. I could be entirely wrong though but I haven't ever bought electronic circuit boards etc made in Russia before, not sure if so much of that exists. Someone can enlighten me though.

Checked out the website in this screenshot, the item is listed for $65 USD (Aprox. £51, €58) on sale from $75 USD (Aprox. £58, €67)
Good to know if this is the actual price.
That’s too much, I just played a game from the price is right. About $50 more you could get a v1 switch without joycons, if lucky joycon and maybe dock included.

Yea a huge bummer Nintendo just used him to make an example, one I feel that means nothing to the teams developing these products.

$12.95 shipping comes out to like 77 bucks lol it's affordable at least but I mean do I really need it nope. I have a modded oled, several modded regular switches, and a modded lite... I think I'm covered :)

I think you’d be surprised a lot of people may talk piracy but I can’t be the only one with a huge game library, I’ve had my fair share of modded consoles, but enjoy stock firmware with no risk of a ban, and never have to worry about updating the console or the issues a failed chip can cause.

Still it’s it’s a bit over priced, maybe I’m over looking something but we don’t know what the mig switch dumper looks like because I don’t see it in website. So is it really included, don’t know where price info came from but maybe it said it’s included with that price. I will take a look at their website again in a bit.

Hell for not much more you could get a Mariko Switch modchipped. (Installation + Chip) or if you have the skills, then it'd be significantly cheaper to do that then get this flashcart.

Whenever I pirate something I end up buying it if I enjoyed it. If I didn't enjoy it I'll delete my pirated copy as no point keeping something I don't enjoy. Piracy for me is basically a way to demo a game before I spend my money. I like owning physical copies of console games I enjoy. On PC it's similar, I prefer having the game on Steam than having a pirated copy so I tend to wait until they're a decent price on somewhere like CDKeys.com and then just buy them. Rarely pirate anything on PC nowadays

Wasn't that autistic kid who leaked GTA6 been doing the same acts. He had no remorse and would return to his crimes the moment he was released. I don't believe this guy is any different, treacherous vandalism.
Why would you have remorse for stealing from a multi-billion dollar company? It was actually pretty funny and I was genuinely angry when I heard they locked him up in an asylum. Like what the hell, he did a lot of crimes but he's just autistic!
