Hello everyone!

I have an original US Wii (bought on release day), which I played occasionally and legitimately until yesterday. It was running menu version 4.3U, and I followed the guide here (using Smash Bros) to install HBC and everything else that is included as part of the tutorial. Everything went splendidly, and all of the homebrew apps work fine. I installed NeoGamma R9 b47 as a channel, and installed Darkcorp 1.1 Full.

However, I can't get any game backups to run. I have four US Wii ISOs on my computer - I burned two of them to DVD+Rs, but the Disc channel cannot recognize them, even though Darkcorp installed fine ("Unable to read the disc"). When attempting to boot the DVD backups from NeoGamma (IOS249 Rev 21), I get "DVD Err(1208), Disc ID". I also tried NeoGamma R8, which did the same thing, although gave a slightly differently worded error and error number.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but because I have an original, first-run, launch date Wii, I should be able to run DVD backups.

So then I tried formatting a 16GB SDHC card as WBFS, and installing a couple of the ISOs on it. NeoGamma mounts the SDHC properly and detects the games, but as soon as a game is launched, I get the "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button, remove the Game Disc, and turn the power OFF." message.

Original games still work fine.

here is my output from sysCheck 2.0.1:

I've googled all of my errors and I've searched around for hours trying to get this stuff running, but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

switch to DVD-R's, much better compatibility with Wii's reading them.
I had the same experience with +R's and switching to -R's played fine.
Some Wii's read +R's fine, but its hit or miss.

When you softmodded, what guide did you follow?
I would re-mod it using modmii on your PC to re-mod, and yes, you can safely
re-mod a modded wii with modmii, just follow the self-generated guide modmii
outputs for you. click on my sig "modmii for windows".......

You beat me to it once again, ddetkowski.

The following piece of the neogamma beta thread might also be interesting:

Wiipower- And last but not least: A good disc. Only use high quality media and never burn slower than 4x. If you believe you need to burn slow, then use 4x, all others try 8x,12x or 16x. And DVD+Rs need the booktype set to DVD-R(dvd-rom) on burning, or the Wii won't be able to read them. This procedure is called bitsetting, just google it. Especially if the games can't be booted at all and NeoGamma doesn't even switch to the internal GC loader, then it's a disc or .iso problem for sure.
(yes, it's on the gamecube FAQ...but it applies to wii discs as well)

I can't say much about the SDHC not working. It sounds like the classic #002 error (blue screen, white text, yes?). Isn't there an option in neogamma to set that option off? (like '002fix=on' or something).
Neogamma is the best loader for what backup discs are concerned, but when it comes to loading from usb loading* then loaders like wiiflow or USB loader CFG offer better compatability.

*while loading from sdhc is actually different, it falls in the same category

I tried burning an ISO with the booktype set to DVD-ROM, same results. As for SDHC not working, it goes through a few different loading messages, then turns black, flashes green real quick, then it's white text on a black screen, and it's a Wii font (for the error).

I used the guide stickied here to mod it (how to mod any wii), but I will try using ModMii.

Okay, I've completely re-modded the Wii with ModMii. I did NOT re-install Darkcorp or anything after finishing ModMii.

The NeoGamma B9 channel from before throws the same error. I put NeoGamma B8 on my SD card, and it gives the same DVD read error as before. Loading a game from SDHC gives the same error as before.

I guess the only thing I have left to try is using real DVD-Rs (that is, not using DVD+Rs with the booktype set to DVD-ROM)?

EDIT: WiiFlow works fine. That's odd. I guess I'll be using it.

Gambia, The
NeoGamma only loads from discs or wbfs formatted devices. And the sd game loading code in NeoGamma might be broken, haven't tested it in ages.

Well, my SD card is formatted as WBFS, and NeoGamma was detecting the games; they just wouldn't boot properly. But anyway, now that WiiFlow is working perfectly from my SD card (using a USB card reader in the USB port and it's treating it as a hard drive), I'll ditch NeoGamma and not worry about playing backup discs. I'll do original discs and USB backups.

Still, thanks for the help XFlak. If I end up trying NeoGamma again I will keep this in mind.
