This is an always-freebie, but it's pretty interesting: A full 4-level Quake-like packed into a single 64kb executable.

More info about the game, made for a coding challenge:

OK, what’s so impressive? Well, aside from the fact that this is a playable 3D shooter in 64kB, with multiple enemies, multiple levels, oodles of textures, running, jumping et cetera–it’s so Quake-like he’s using TrenchBroom to make the levels.

Video explaining how he packed so much into such a small executable:

Seems like it. I wonder if it'll be a full game once it gets updated and goes free to paid.

It looks like it's switching to paying upfront for the full game, with a separate demo, instead of the current "unlock" system.

Since launching last week, we’ve seen a lot of feedback about how Go Ape Ship! is sold on Steam. Offering a free download + in-game purchase came across as deceptive.

In short, we didn’t get it right.

That approach was taken to support our Pay Once, Play Anywhere model, which allows players to access Go Ape Ship! across all available platforms with a single purchase. Making the game a free download with an unlock was how we handled cross-platform ownership behind the scenes.

But it’s clear that on Steam, that approach caused confusion, especially around refunds, and that’s on us.

So, here’s what we’re doing:

Go Ape Ship! will soon be sold as an upfront premium game, with a separate free demo if you want to try before you buy. We’re rebuilding our ownership system to support that change.

If you purchase Go Ape Ship! before the premium version releases and want a full refund, we’ve got you—no matter how long you’ve played. Just email [email protected] with your user ID and we’ll take care of it.

Thanks for jumping in, playing with your friends, and telling us where we got it wrong. We’re a small team and we’re moving fast to make this right.

The "pay once, play everywhere" bit is in relation to the Android and iOS versions:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/go-ape-ship/id6751299685
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.sound.gouda&hl=en_US

So no matter where you paid to unlock the game, you could play the full game on all 3 platforms. That makes sense in theory, and I think Android and iOS players are more used to a "free" game sometimes only being effectively a demo before you have to pay for more, Steam users have different expectations of what "free" means.
