They'd still need authority to confiscate items from an individual not to mention a warrant to ask for ID and search your pockets if you put the card into your pocket. If they fail to do so, you could sue them for $$.

They shouldn't be able to. That's like saying that they'd take your iPod away at a music store for having songs downloaded from the internet. (No, not iTunes.)

Horrible example, it is nearly impossible to tell if the songs you have on your MP3 player is pirated as you could've gotten any which ways (ripping it from your CD for example). But having a flash cart and 20 games on it makes it quite obvious you're pirating.
Not really. If you don't show them your boot up menu, and you don't go around showing off 20 different games without switching your cart like a dumbass, then yeah, it's gonna look pretty fishy.

Nice point, War.

Well, they can't take your property... It's our property.. so...

If you were caught, you would be disqualified. They probably can't do anything outside of kicking you out of the event

No.1 : its not illegal to back up roms in some countries, and No 2 nintendo will not personally be allowed to confiscate your card, so yeah.

Ahh damn. i guess i might need ARDS after all.

But what would be better is if the R4 adds functionality to act as an ACTUAL ARDS (as in you can activate codes and then load your official cart).

Or correct me if that is impossible.

I tried to get Manaphy on my R4 at the JB HI-FI nintendo event (Australia). And it woudnt work, i just never got the wonder card. Tried on my legit pokemon card and worked instantly so yeah i dont know.

About the pokemon battles, get a full lineup of hacked/uber/1337/ magicarps and just slaughter all the little kiddies and watch their reaction. priceless.

I was just wondering has anyone tried using a flashcart at an official nintendo event / some other event?

For example in pokemon has anyone tried battling people with a flashcart?

Just wondering.

Well, most of the big tournaments use the game console -- GameCube or Wii.

First, your boot screen doesn't ever appear on the TV screen. You have to have booted into the game on your GBA or DS before you can connect to the console's game. No chance of catching you there unless your booting is supervised.

Second, this is an R4 forum so the DSWii connection doesn't exist, so it's a moot point, eh?

I've heard people say that when you've advanced really high in the GameBoy tournaments they will take your cartridge and "check it" looking for "illegal stuff." What those same people couldn't say was whether they were just carefully checking stats, abilities and moves to see if they were legal or not, or whether they were plugging it into some computerized cartidge checker do it. Regardless though, if they have your cart in hand, you're toast.

I can say at the city and regional level they just look at the Pokes in your party and do a basic check of stats. Though I did have a friend unfamiliar in the ways of flashcarts notice the microSD slot when looking at my DS at the last Pokemon tournament (cards) and he kept asking, "What's wrong with your cartridge man? It's broke or sumthin'!"

P.S. -- We don't tournament play with illegit pokes...

As for the "Roms are legal if you've got the original": yes and no. Yes, legal to have a backup copy. No, you can't play it.

Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

Crack's your property too, doesn't mean you're allowed to have it. Nintendo can't take it, but someone else might

I have an idea for Pokemon! Get all the hacked Pokemon you want, and transfer to the real copy. Eaaaaassssyyyyyyyy...?

Also, I live in Australia but I don't have Pokemon Diamond so I can't do the JB Hi-Fi event... although I am getting it soon... (legit one, mind you) unfortunately after the event ends.

Also...

Quoted for an answer to teh topic.

anyway they can call the police, but you will be long gone before the police arrive since they cant hold you up, having Rom =/= Stealing, so if they hold you against your will, you can sue them back.

just what i thought..

1. go to Nintendo event..
2. PWN some N00BS
3. get caught
4.get kicked out..

they wouldnt take it.. but, if you do play on the big screen, i don't think they would show your startup.. thats pretty stupid.. although if you have a white R4 and a black DS.. that kinda sticks out showing the micro SD.. but with the new R4s its kind of hidden.. but anyway, im thinking of getting a cyclo and giving my R4 to my little sister

worst case scenario:
1) you live in a country where even thinking of copies is prohibited
2) flash carts are illegal in your country
3) you don't own the game, you pirated it
4) you downloaded it

possile consequences: confiscation of your equipment and being charged for piracy

best case scenario:
1) backups are legal in your country
2) flashcarts legal
3) you have the original with you
4) dump-it-yourself

possible consequences: kicked out of the tournament, getting ass kicked by reggie

Why would you want to cheat when playing at an event? That's just lame and idiotic.

Note necessarily to cheat. I for one can't really afford many/any DS games, so I don't have a real Pokemon cartridge. However, I'm pretty serious about my Pokemon and I like to play against a lot of people, some people won't play against someone with a flash cart, so I just get my hands on real cart (borrow or rent) and toss my save on it. All my Pokemon are legit though.

I used my R4 at the Gamestop Pokemon tourney, and I didn't get any heat for it. Obviously, they checked my Poke's moves, stats, etc. to see if they were legit, and they were (or were they

? lol, kidding). I did freak some kids out when I played Metroid Prime without switching my cart, though
