A little off-topic, but Team DSTT claims that a future version of their firmware will destroy fake DSTT carts. They have a video that presumably shows a "fake-killer" program that destroys fake DSTT's. If it's true and they follow through with the threat to include it in future firmware, there is the possibility that it could destroy the SCDS1 if used on that cart.
A little more on-topic, while the SCDS1 is a good cart, there are probably better choices for kids. The menu system is overly complicated and a little bit sluggish compared to other carts. Meanwhile, its biggest strengths (those "extra" features like RTS) probably wouldn't be used much.
