Hacking Fixing the microphone on the DS Lite?

I know it's possible, because I've seen tutorials, but I have no clue what the tutorials mean...

I'm pretty sure that this tutorial refers to an external microphone. (A "plug in" microphone or headset)
If it's your normal (Internal) microphone that's faulty this will not help.
You can replace the internal mic. fairly cheaply but involves opening the DS case.
