Hacking Fixing a semi-brick Japanese Wii

Hello, people.

I have a friend with Japanese Wii + Wiikey. But he semi-bricked his Wii (months ago, before SSBB). He can play, but is not able to access wii configuration menu anymore.

I think that all that I need to fix his Wii is inserting a Japanese Smash Brows with the lastest firmware update and run the full update, right?

Yes you just need to run the full JAP SSBB with update to fix your semi bricked wii
