I know Smealums stance on piracy, and understand that he probably wont release anything that allows people to play ROMs on their softmodded 3DS's. But like the homebrew channel for the Wii, someone else will figure out the piracy aspect of it eventually.

Will softmods stop piracy? Absolutely not.
Would it hurt the flashcard makers? Most definitely.

And smealum has already made his point that he doesn't like Gateway's philosophy, so he's not going to show any mercy. Not to mention that he's against piracy altogether, so chances are that we'll see a somewhat piracy-free platform with his hack, which doesn't mind me a bit tbh.

well at some point he talked about restricting the power of execution of homebrews so they could not be used to patch the securities set by Nintendo but that'd require heavy work afaik, and that'd be a total waste of time...
Well...i really dont know how he will do that but im really curious!
Cause as i said homebrew is bypassing ninty's scurities to run unsigned code(correct me if im wrong)
I dunno im confused...but atleast it shows that he found an exploit in 7 frimware(or editing emunand 7!?!?!?)

Nope. redNAND.

Thats nice, but based on this guy's history, he never shares his exploit for public use. So what's the point? If only he is not selfish, we could have had homebrew months or years ago...

He will release the tools and everything once he finds a way to block any ROM launcher or something of the sort to prevent piracy... and that is already pretty hard for Ninty itself.

Same. Bring out true region free and I couldn't are less about rom playback. Its significantly cheaper to source games from other regions. With a gateway-like device, I just see myself loading every single game in existence but only truly playing a select few games. Since I'll only be playing a select few games, I don't mind paying for them.

I just want a Cheat Engine for 3DS, with a large user base so that as soon as people start getting banned, they'll have un-banning codes out immediately. Hopefully Nintendo Network shit doesn't interfere with that though.

What ? you want cheats for online games ? thats fucking terrible

Did the installing of a secondary os ever work out for any console ? i know it has been done but was there ever a case where it lead to widespread adoption ?

I would say it did for the original Xbox. Pretty much anybody that used one of the softmods for it replaced their dashboard with either Linux, Evolution-X, or XBMC.
