It dumps both the pending and current firmware. I've been updating this way for months, and I've found that sometimes both are required.
Do you have to go through the update procedure in settings to dump a pending update like firmwaredumper or does this work differently? Thanks it’s always nice to have other options with the app.

yes, it was a joke. I think the situation is fixing itself now seeing JK_ is working with you to see what's happening.
I'm just not sure it's the correct place to discuss JK_'s dumper bugs, as it's fOmey's dumper thread. but if it doesn't bother him, it's fine to stay here as there's no official thread yet.
there's nothing to take down, as it's not posted on gbatemp. I can't take down a github project. This thread is fOmey dumper which is doing good dumps, right?

Though, seeing one of the first comments on this thread, someone reported that a firmware dumped with this tool (firmware dumper, not BiggestDump) had different files than the firmwares found on the net before this tool was released.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/firmware-dumper.522522/#post-8368850

who to trust? which dumper is good?

It does actually.. can you please cleanup all the off topic posts if you would be so kind,

Anything related to "JK" can be discussed on a thread dedicated to it, not hijacking this one.

Thank you.

I was trying to help you while you where not active I didn’t want users coming to this thread and downloading the commit on biggest dump by accident instead of firmware dumper when it clearly does not work properly I suggest you clear anything related to this app and let him move on. Firmware dumper I have tested thoroughly with pending and it dumps a 1:1 copy every time.

@fOmey i wanted to let you know I used your firmware dumper to dump v6.2.0 pending but it would not work with ChoiDujour when it checks the files it errors out at the end about missing meta file so it won’t let you install the pending firmware I went back and tried to dump the firmware again but every time it’s missing this important meta file I’m not sure if this is an issue with FDumper dumping a pending update or something else. The registered update installs all ok.

@fOmey did you manage to have a look at the reason why the pending update doesn’t download the necessary meta file? I tried to use it on firmware 6.2 but ChoiDujour would not complete without the meta file, it seems to skip this file when grabbing the update.

if you're talking about ChoiDujour PC, it is not compatible with 6.2.0

Hi can we use this to dump the 7.0 firmware for clarification? I know 7.0 is useless rn but I’m going to update regardless as I don’t care about cfw rn I usually just wait till the newest firmware patch is ready but I still want to play online for the time being. Please no “you’ll get banned” shenanigans or “updating is useless” etc

@fOmey I don't know if this very useful tool is still being worked on, but now that emuMMC is out it would be really cool to be able to dump the firmware update from another emuMMC path or partition than the one currently booted ! This way one could update a clean unbaned emuMMC via Horizon, then switch to another emuMMC used for homebrew, dump the update from the clean emuMMC and apply it via ChoiDuJourNX without having to rely on a computer nor having to temporarily boot a CFW on the clean emuMMC.

I hope there will be a bypass or an alternative method of downloading firmware to be dumped for banned consoles using this app.

Banned consoles should still be able to download firmware updates unless they are CDN banned which is rare and not being distributed anymore nowadays.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

Samsung SD format can sometimes fix them too

yes looks like an faulty sd

@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards
