Hacking FINALLY!!! A Fix for The October 23d update!!!

just to catch everyone up in very plain english:

3 Step-Process to downgrading:

Step 1: Use Wad Manager 1.3 [official release] to install the IOS16 wad file.

Step 2: Use Wad Manager [custom IOS16 version by Davi92] to install the provided cIOS wad (generally, "ios_fix", but as long as it is a cIOS wad, you can use it, elfs/dols won't work).

Step 3: Use IOS Downgrader 1.0 (NOT any VERSION of cIOS Downgrader) to do a (mostly) complete downgrade, if that is your end goal.

If you just want to be able to install whatever wads, you can stop after step number 2, and go back to using Wad Manager 1.3 to do so.

Where to get IOS16?
well, davi92 has now built a program that creates it for you, found in this thread, or you can read this thread more in-depth to find out more.

Does this work without a cIOS?
Yes and No,
Yes meaning, the first two steps are there to get a cIOS installed,
so then, at the end, it uses a cIOS.

The whole point is you didn't need a cIOS already.

Does this work with any region?
The possibility exists that it does not work with Korean Region Wii's, because they have different keys, and have had different trucha status.
It does work with PAL, JAP, NTSC, etc.
If you don't understand anything else, that is the important part.

Can nintendo fix this?
Easily, and it's likely/possible they will.
At such a time as that happens, (A) DON'T UPDATE, and (B) I have another workaround, but it happens to be just as easily patched.
oh and  people much better at this than me will undoubtedly have something too, so don't expect me to even need to release mine.

Can this brick my wii?
Almost certainly not. Does your power go out a lot randomly? That could cause problems, I guess.

Should I just randomly ask more questions without reading?
you will be arrowed.

check this out,
on step 2, i cant install cIOS fix.wad for some reason, and i did use wad mananger cios 16 version and no luck...

there are two possible problems I can think of.

either you are trying to install the wads from USB, which could cause problems and is not recommended,

or you have a somewhat corrupted SD card, and just need a good format

if you are using USB, don't.

last ditch effort: try Wad Manager 1.21 for the first install, unless it's definitely installed already.

I have problem when I downgrading Wii. It's show error message is "ret = -1035".

I try to downgarde to another version but it has same problem.

I installed "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" but it still same.

I downgrade with Waninkoko's CIOS Downgrader 1.0 b'cos V 2.0 can't run on my Wii it restart itself automatically to Wii menu.

Now my wii can't install any WAD Games but it can install some ios files.

I want to downgrade my wii to 3.2u. Please help me. Thanks guys.

Sorry for my bad english. - -

after you installed that ios you have to use thw wad manager that works with ios16 (must be on this thread...)
With that you can install the cios rev6. Then you can downgrade first with "custom ios downgrader 1.2" and then with "IOS downgrader 1.0"

Question: The method in this topic requires me to install IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad using Manager v1.3. But in order to use Manager v1.3 it is necessary to have the Homebrew Channel (HBC) installed, right?

yes

Question: But before that, I need to run the Twilight Hack to install the HBC, correct?

yes

Question: In the twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1 changelog it says "The Twilight Hack is now compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu". Is this still true after the October 23 update?

yes

So:
- Download twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1 (http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/)
- Download the_homebrew_channel-beta_9 (http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/)
- Format your SD card (max 2GB) to FAT16 (it may help to use the Official SD Card Format Tool (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/))
- Copy the 'private' directory from the twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1 archive to the root of your SD card
- Copy boot.dol from the the_homebrew_channel-beta_9 archive to the root of your SD card (the wiiload folder is not needed)
- You need a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii version)
- Start a session of Zelda and make a savegame
- Close you session of Zelda
- Put the SD card into your Wii
- Go into Wii Options --> Data Managment --> Save Date --> Wii
- Find your Zelda savegame, click on it, click "Erase", and click "Yes"
- Open your SD card and select the "Twilight Hack" savegame that corresponds to your game region (for PAL, this would be the data.bin file in the 'private\wii\title\rzdp' directory)
- Click "Copy" and then "Yes"
- Now exit out of the menu
- Start a new session of Zelda and load the "Twilight Hack" savegame
- Once in the game, either walk backwards or talk to the man standing in front of you
- The screen should turn black and there should be some code running
- You will be presented with a disclaimer screen about the dangers of installing the HBC. Follow the instructions
- After this process has completed, you should have a HBC in your System Menu
- You may safely delete the boot.dol file from the SD card, it is no longer needed

all correct

Question: do I need to reboot my Wii at any time during this process?

don't know but I did power it off every time I swapped out the SD card

Question: is there another way to do all of this, or am I still on the right track?

no other way once you updated after 23 oct AFAIK

To continue:

- Download the necessary files to downgrade (3.3u UPDATE FIX in djtaz' signature, thank you djtaz!)

Question: it says "3.3u UPDATE FIX". The 'u' implies a fix for NTSC (USA) Wii consoles. Can this package also be used on PAL systems?

yes, it worked on my PAL system

- Create a directory named 'apps' in the root of your SD card
- Put [3587]WAD_Manager_v1.3 (the entire directory) in the 'apps' directory on your SD card (Now WAD Manager v1.3 will appear in the Homebrew Channel)
- Create a directory named 'wad' in the root of your SD card
- Put IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad in the 'wad' directory

These steps can be done by unzipping the archive to the SD and take out the top level folder.

- Run WAD Manager v1.3 using the HBC
- Install IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
- Replace the boot.dol file in directory 'apps\[3587]WAD_Manager_v1.3'(on your SD card) with the boot.dol file from directory 'apps\wadmanagerios16' (from the "3.3u UPDATE FIX" archive)
- Once again run WAD Manager v1.3 using the HBC
- Install cios_fix.wad

correct

From here on I'm not really sure what to do

- Put the 'IOS-Downgrader_v1' directory in the 'apps' directory on your SD Card

This steps is also done by unzipping the archive to the SD

- Run IOS Downgrader v1 using the HBC

Question: Is this possible? Because in the IOS-Downgrader_v1 README it states that you need Custom IOS37 rev 03 or higher? My Wii has no cIOS installed, so I'm not sure what to do here?

worked for me

Question: Are there more steps to take?

no

Many thanks to those that contributed in one form or another.
And also to those that made it to the end om my post
wink.gif

I did !

All i would add is that my zip contains the twilight stuff as well (or at least it should) so if you do that step beforehand it should make life easier

Can you please tell me if it's better to install de cIOS provided here (cios_fix.wad - Wiigator one?) or the one from Waninkoko? Which one is "better"?

If this from Wiigator is about loading backup copies, I don't need it because I've already have a modchip.

Please let me know! Thanks!
