Wait? You just realized this?

You're like over a decade late to the punch. Pretty much after FFVII they started pooping out more spin-offs than can be imagined.

And it's far, far worse than KH is milked. I mean KH does get milked but it's still had like 2 main series games and 4 spin-offs. Final Fantasy has had like... 14 main series games, 6 remakes/ports/"advanced" ports at least (well there's I, II, III, IV, V, and VI which all got remakes off the top of my head, with IV getting another remake), and more spinoffs than I can count.

But yeah, I switched over to liking Western RPGs myself. I pretty much realized that Western RPGs were superior when I finished Mass Effect. I haven't seen nor do I think I'll see a JRPG game with that level of awesomeness for a while.

Hey IX was an awesome game. I do think FFVII was pretty bad though. It was way over hyped. Kingdom Hearts is not that bad, I will agree that 3 out of the 4 spin-offs kinda sucked (Birth By Sleep is the best of them, and one of my favorites), but Final Fantasy is far worse than Kingdom Hearts in terms of milking. Even Pokemon is far worse, that series is WAY over milked. I hate to say this too, but even Harvest Moon has been milked to death (and yet I love most of them

). Zelda and Mario are getting really close too.

Lol we're getting super off topic. I think I'm about to start a WRPG vs. JRPG debate.

The RPG that got me into RPG's was a WRPG (KotOR), and I guess I thought FF would be on that same level of awesomeness but nope. Picking up Mass Effect 2 on PS3 tomorrow, high hopes. Higher than FFXIII.

KOTOR is another good example of why I believe WRPGs > JRPGs.

And if you have a Xbox 360 or good enough PC it's probably better to stick with Mass Effect on those consoles. It's much better to play the first game (even if it is a bit clunkier than the second) so you can experience the decisions in a more personal way instead of going through a lame comic to make them. But if you really don't then the PS3 version should be fine, it's just disappointing to lose out on the full experience of the first game.

No 360 and my PC blows like no other. Originally I was against Mass Effect 2 on PS3 because I knew they wouldn't bring 1 over and it seemed pointless. But at the same time, I feel bad not being able to go through one of the most successful games from my favorite Western RPG company. It's not like I'm never going to go through Mass Effect 1. I'll probably play it someday.

Wow. Just wow.

Okay, that's it. I'm done with Final Fantasy. I'm done with Square. I'm done with JRPG's. I'm done with anything Japanese. I'm sticking to western. Okay that's a bit far, but forget FF for real. This series is being milked so bad it's almost worse than Kingdom Hearts. I'm not even joking right now. If a game is horrible (and in my opinion, XIII was an absolute piece of crap) giving it a sequel won't make it better. Especially when the game took four~ years to develop and they announce a sequel in one. I haven't seen Square make a good decision when it comes to Final Fantasy in... forever. If this game is finished before Versus or AgitoType-0 I might hang myself. I'm gonna go play like, Pokemon or something.
Fixed.
If a game is horrible you can release a reworked version OR a sequel to rectify all the wrongs done with the previous iteration! According to SE's PR it will exceed FFXIII in every way.
By the way FFXIII-2 is supposed to come out this year in Japan and in the next Winter in the west. Versus wasn't even given a release window in today's event.
Do you want me to buy you a rope, or something? :>

I don't think you can fix the problems in XIII that I see wrong. Mainly the plot and characters. Gameplay and music were great imo. Versus looked like the one thing saving FF imo and it seems like they're just pushing it to the side. But then again, I don't like the FF series as a whole. Save for IV (which is also being seriously milked but it's an overall decent game) and X.

Week 1 Surprise:

"What's in Final Fantasy XIII-2? Something that you've all voiced your opinion for. After a long hiatus... we're bringing back TOWNS! THAT'S RIGHT! TOWNS! Stay tuned next week for one other announcement that will definitely make you fans happy."

Week 2 Surprise:

"Last week we surprised the gaming world by announcing the return of towns to Final Fantasy XIII-2. So what could possibly top that? Are you ready? We here at Square Enix have gotten A LOT of input of Final Fantasy XIII, that's why, today, we're officially unveiling something that's been missing in our games for a long time. That missing ingredient returns in the form of.... FUN! THAT'S RIGHT! WE'RE MAKING THIS GAME FUN! We have one last surprise for you guys next week so stay tuned!"

Week 3 Surprise:

"We're going to delay Kingdom Hearts 3 because we have to work on this game, versus XIII and others. Hope you don't mind. We gave you guys Re: Coded and Birth By Sleep to last you for a couple months anyways."

Yes. Have you played all of their games in that long time you refer to? All of them? You haven't.
Besides, if they weren't fun, why would they sell so much?

FFXIII-2 will probably be released so "soon" because they're reusing cut and uncut content from FFXIII. In an interview they said they cut enough content for a whole game.
Does this:

look like something that's being pushed to the side?
Finally...
You liked X but not XIII? Does not compute.

On the bright side, Versus XIII was confirmed a PS3 exclusive worldwide.
...Except they said that for XIII until BAM, they announced it for 360.

Subjective opinions are subjective.

"I didn't like it" isn't co-defined as "It is bad" in any language on Earth.

An interesting idea, is to only purchase and play games that you happen to like.

Don't like playing a game that spends its first 40 hours more like a movie, and then gives you hundreds of optional sidequests, some of which aren't even completable until you're far more powerful than necessary to defeat the game? Well, that's understandable. Just don't play it.

Don't like playing a game where you simulate the management and in-game play of a popular competitive athletic sport? Well, that's understandable. Just don't play it.

Honestly, with 3 different brandings of NBA games (just as an example) coming out every year, gauranteed, for at least the past decade, it's hard to claim that SE is over-milking the Final Fantasy cow.

So you don't like the direction they've chosen to go? That's understandable. But it isn't a reason to criticize their business practices.

FFXIII sells 6 million copies. Talk all the smack about the game you want to, that's your prerogative. From a business standpoint, it was a huge success. For them to capitalize on that success (and, by the way, probably please the owners of some of those 6 million copies of FFXIII) is smart business.

It's like saying that M&M's are being made by shitty businessmen because they keep coming out with all these new kinds, all of which you don't like as well as the original M&M's.

You're allowed to dislike them, but don't be so foolish as to assume that just because you didn't like them, that they shouldn't be on the market.

If you'll do a little analysis, you'll see that other than the immense development costs for a few colossal failures (which were even reasonable risks that were mishandled) such as Spirits Within, Final Fantasy XI (a lot of people like it, but it wasn't a big money-earner), and especially Final Fantasy XIV, SE is making plenty of money, plenty of consumers still enjoy the games, and it's reasonable for them to make a new game with characters you recognize. It gives the fans new content to enjoy, and their shareholders new gold bars to sleep on every night.

That's a win/win situation, and it's ignorant to consider "But I didn't like it!!!!!!" to be more important than that.

Additionally, I'm glad so many people enjoy Mass Effect style western RPGs. They're very good, that's hard to dispute. But, comparing them with Japanese RPGs is also foolish. You might as well say that Final Fantasy sucks because there's no aliens to shoot and nobody even has a single gun, let alone any grenades. Then you're straying into both subjectivity and irrelevance. Final Fantasy isn't Halo for a reason, comparing the 2 is nothing but subjective opinion, and liking one doesn't necessitate an exclusion of liking the other, that's just standard xenophobia applying itself to gaming in-groups. Mass Effect is a different beast than Final Fantasy, and it's for different gamers.

I'm sorry, and I'm sure that Square-Enix is sorry, that you prefer other games to theirs, but unfortunately not every game can please every customer. Purchase games in genres you prefer, and allow others to purchase games in genres they prefer.

All this "FF SUCKS LOL SQUARE IS BAD" nonsense is essentially just flaming, and honestly should be moderated. How are people possibly able to respond other than by saying "NO IT ISN'T FF IS AWESOME MASS EFFECT IS DUMMBBB!!"

It's a paradoxical line of reasoning and it borders on intentionally inflammatory. GBAtemp and the rest of society would honestly be better off without it, so people might want to consider holding such comments in, rather than start unnecessary and inflammatory fan-arguments.

So, please, just start your own threads if you want to argue about if FF is better than ME or whatever else, this thread isn't really the place to stir up a bunch of opinion-bickering.

X and XIII are completely different games. They share almost no similarities except for making how you level your characters. And the fact they're rather linear. But even then, X has more exploration and more to do than XIII (Especially the International release). The plot is better, the music is better, I like the characters more, and I don't like the active-time battle system much. XIII just feels like another rehash to the series. I have more memories with X.

But again, this is all opinion. There are people who will say XIII is better than X. I personally don't care, I enjoy X more. That's that. And sorry I'm not keeping up with Versus news. If you can't tell, I don't personally care much for the FF series and don't look up much on it. I only know what people tell me and what I see on game sites when I look.

It doesn't exactly take a degree in physics engineering to know that ever since Final Fantasy X, the quality and "WOW" and "HOLY SHIT" factor in Final Fantasy games have dipped quite a bit. Final Fantasy X was a hit or miss with fans. X-2 was mostly just a miss with the odd fan liking it. XII was another hit or miss. XIII was just a big disappointment overall.

By that I mean FOR EXAMPLE, the best way for me to describe it is, say give FF7, 8, and 9 scores of 10/10. Then ever since X, it's been mediocre scores. They just aren't getting the same type of reviews that they once were.

u cant convince ppl to like games that are popular... many ppl hate pokemon although there may be even more ff haters, maybe (according to my opinion) its bcz they are popular and give a sense of uniqueness in terms of gameplay. When ppl see such a reception to a game and do not feel the same for it, they will hate it and continue hating it including all versions related to it

its really a matter of preference and i know so many ppl who hate ff here due to its slow nature and talkative gameplay etc BUT there are a few who really like it (me and a friend who is told to switch tht game off by his bro whenever the bro wishes to play the ps1... this is some years back btw)

what i feel is quite strange is tht this game might have reached a level that other final fantasy games besides 7 and 10, have not reached. ff7 got its own prequel on the psp and ff10 too in the form of ffx-2

Interesting FACT: ff13 was voted second best game of the year on gamefaqs followed by GOW3 and the first was obviously mass effect 2.
Havent played GoW 2 fully due to the "distracting" content in the very beginning (which i think SE is implementing in a more artistic and cunning way... they did fail on ffx-2 though using these methods cuz it was too obvious and a bad transition from ffx)

PS - I do not really like GoW but i know many who find it excellent and i can understand why... doesnt make the game bad (for my opinion)

Define mediocre.

Now this is just plain pissing me off. Where the hell is Agito?
Nowhere. Because it's called Final Fantasy Type-0 now. Agito RIP
Haven't all the conference's details been posted pretty much everywhere by now?

Agito is now Final Fantasy Type-0.

The Compilation of Final Fantasy XIII is going to have a buttload of games now!

I look forward to this release as i bought my ps3 only for final fantasy 13 and have enjoyed the previous ones only missing out on ff12 since i didnt have a ps2 at the time
frown.gif
. However 13 was a good game and now that they have the MAX CP GILL patched for those who own the retail copys you can beat the game w/o farming 2mil each for trapazoids. Final Fantasy fans dont necessarily care about the gameplay but the overall storyline and gameplay combined for me every final fantasy has had an awsome story line the main ones were ff3eng (ff6jap) + ff7 i even named my son Cloud
smile.gif
though the wiffy didnt approve of it so i stuck it in there as a middle name Khota Young Cloud Bridges
smile.gif
thats so f**king pimp
smile.gif
Me being a diehard fan i have play final fantasy 1-3(nes), final fantasy 3-6(snes), final fantasy legends 1-3(gb), final fantasy adventure (gb), final fantasy 7-11, and final fantasy 13.

Sure there are ones not with not so great memories like ff8 gunblade; not a huge fan but i'll get over it the story being good the ending was great. I have to say the only thing i hated was the allowance
frown.gif
.

I look forward to this new game and will be definitly reserve it so i can play. I just hope my son like it

well i am looking forward to this .
them saying it's a big improvement over the original Final Fantasy XIII makes me excited to see how this one will turn out .
however . . . Winter 2012 , ugh :\
