Hacking F-Zero GX (PAL) + Cheats?

Hi there,
I'm trying to get my retail copy of F-Zero GX (PAL version) running with cheats. I'm using NeoGamma R9, beta 53, with a retail disc.
Every time I start the game, it boots fine, and the loader finds the cheats, but they have no visible effect on direct booting.
I've tried most (if not all) of the hook types.
Can anybody suggest what I might be missing here?

Does NeoGamma switch to the internal GC loader?

I am using the internal mode of NeoGamma (I haven't worked on Wii hacking for a while, this is for my brother) with a WiiGator cMIOS based on v10.
Sorry about not directly answering the question, but I'm not sure how to tell whether it is switching or not.

EDIT: no, I haven't customised the cMIOS myself, I'm using one installed with WiiGator's cMIOS installer based on v10 of the official MIOS.

If it goes from NeoGamma straight to the game, it's not using the internal loader(=no cheats). Or if something with WiiGator's logo appears.

It is definitely using the NeoGamma GC Backup Loader (according to the launch screen that comes up between NeoGamma and the game), but still no luck. NeoGamma is running on IOS249 when it starts from the HBC.

sorry about the delay on this, but we've been a bit preoccupied of late. Any further suggestions, or things I might be missing?

I just googled a bit, the game needs a master code as 1st code for any codes to work. It should be this:

If not, try your luck at http://wiird.l0nk.org and say that you are using Gecko OS mod.

Now we're talking! Using the VI hook, I got it working. However, that master code didn't work for me - I suspect it may be the NTSC one.
Here's the master code I used:

That code was converted from the AR code - thanks to Fix94 for his tutorial on that.
