Hacking Ez flash vi cheat question

i just got my ezvi today and i need help with cheats
i got the action replay file and put it in the cht folder on the root of the sd card
i select my cheats start the game press L+R+start during the game to activate the cheats but the game freezes
can someone help me fix the problem
i am using the EZ5 open beta 11 by the way
cant figure out how to use the cheats

Avoid to enable cheat named "This must be ON" or "Must be ON".
Those cheat codes are compliant with the original action replay DS cartridge not the ez5.
And last, use clean roms, not patched, not trimmed.
