Hacking Extremely new to PSP, need help attempting hacks

Okay, so I just bought a PSP 3000 the other day at a yard sale for $40. I've played with it only a little, and I heard it can be hacked. I've done some hacks before but only DS and Wii (they're pretty much the easiest.) Looking in to it, I found my software to be 6.20, and this can indeed be hacked. But I'm not sure where to begin.

First off, what can you do with a hacked PSP? What do you need to hack it? I have a memory stick with a 4GB micro sd.

With a hacked psp you can play homebrew and ISOs, you can also run plugins which can do stuff ingame like take screenshots or change the clock rate.
With a temporarily hacked psp you can do all that but every time you restart the psp you have to run the hack again.

Your 4 GB memory stick and a cable for connecting your psp to your PC / a micro sd card reader is all you need.

I think that was my bad... I was talking about Mother, the older base used for the R/M mod likes to freeze before you can start a new game properly or something of that nature.

I've tried this previously. The link he provided (3000- 6.20 Permanent) for a download gave me a useless toolbar, changed my homepage and pretty much froze my computer. Installation was always unsuccessful, stopping at 54%. Is there a separate download link? Perhaps one that won't try to modify my browser a whole bunch before hand?

Uhhh, you guys might seriously reach through the screen to deck me after this next question, but...
I did all of his instructions and how can I tell if my PSP is hacked?

Man, do I feel stupid asking this.

It's alright. Go to the system settings (left menu), and in there somewhere will be your system info, showing you the version. If it has the CFW identifier after it (PRO, whatever), then it's currently in the hacked mode.

Make a folder called /iso/ in the root of the memory stick, drop your ISOs there, and they'll show up in the Games -> Memory Stick menu.
