external harddrive took the fookin knock

well the enclosure as took the knock it was a western digital harddrive in a frecom enclosure only thing is i have measurement it and it is 4" but cant for to save my life find a 4" enclosure which i find weird because freecom is a well known make.any help me out o where to get one

I had a Western Digital drive in a Freecom enclosure but it got damaged when it was struck. The only measurement I have is 4 inches but as it would transpire there are no 4 inch enclosures on the market today. This is never the less odd as freecom is in the position of being a much recognised brand.
Would you be so kind as to inform me where perchance I might aquire a replacement.

4 inches is likely an external measurement, most drives are classified 3 and half inches (laptops tend to be 2 and a half and sever drives can on occasion be bigger). You should have no trouble whatsoever finding a 3.5 inch caddy or enclosure from any halfway decent IT supplier.

no i have took the harddrive out of the enclosure and measurement it and the width is 4" . which is very suprising cause all the are for 3.5 " but you must be able to get them and it was a freecom enlosue which are a very well known company for enclosures

You measured wrong.

There is no such thing as a 4" (consumer) HD.

just measured the one in my pc and that is the same as size.
when they say 5.25" does that mean the length or the width?

because if it mean the length the lenght of the ones i have are 5 3/4 " so it might get in

The size designations are more nomenclature than descriptive: for example, a 3.5" drive is named for the size of the floppy disk whose drive bay size it was originally designed to occupy; the drive itself is actually wider.

so mine measures 4" in width but if i get a 3.5" enclosure that will fit?

yes, most likely...could you perhaps post the model number of your drive? we could tell you for sure, if you did. also, the article i posted earlier states that 3.5" drives are actually 4" wide.

I kid you not, it is a standard sized hard drive. It will fit any enclosure designed to house 3.5" drives. There is no uncertainty here. None. It will fit I tells ya. I am willing to bet a trillion quatloos on this!
