causing my wii to brick

Before i go modifying system files of the wii, i recommend you you install boot mii and or pre-loader.
Making your wii to most likely survive a brick.

But that should be a worry with trucha bug restorer

You should steer clear from anything that modifies anything on the Wii's nand, unless you have a way to restore it from a brick AND you know what you're doing.

Both aren't the case here, so don't.

hold the power button for 5 seconds to shut of your wii without unplugging it, i always do that when something freezes
