they will only be banning the headers that are left lying around the public internet locations, sky3ds template > warez forums > torrents etc, i highly doubt they would ban a header and console if just 2 people were using it (im speaking about someone stripping the header and trading it in)

If Nintendo and all other corporations really are blocking console IDs to their own network servers, then it'll cause a huge public outcry. Not only by individuals, but also retailers will also complain about it as well, which will lead to cuts in the amount of sales as well as retailers refusing to stock the consoles or games. If they really are blocking access to the internet, they could be just blocking their IP address from online multiplayer, as well as their account. If the unique console ID really was getting blocked, they could easily just buy another console and modify it again. If this really is happening, then why exactly are the individuals and retailers not complaining about it?

Ah I see, I've just checked Mario Kart 7 and noticed it only had the header ID in which was different between the one I downloaded ages ago and the one that I dumped just now.

Blocking IP's is a poor way to deny single users service. Your average internet customer usually gets a dynamic IP which changes every refresh (around here anyway). And then there are VPN's and proxies. And...

By a chance, were those people that got their console IDs blocked from Nintendo Network using custom firmware? It could be a possibility that it could've happened. But I still think it was just that those people had Nintendo Network's IP address or domain name blocked on their router's firewall, as a safeguard to prevent being updated passed sysNAND 9.2.0.

Sorry, but Microsoft has been doing console bans for a loooong time and there was no public outcry.

People without custom firmware have been banned.

You're late to the party dude. Maybe go read back a little?

Everything you have been saying has been proven false already.

Then those bans would've temporary, if there was no public outcry about it. Just saying.

If console ID blocks were permanent, it would've already caused a public outcry. I just know it would, I sure would've complained if it happened to me, I wouldn't sit back and do nothing about it.

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/consoleban

"Violations of the Xbox Live Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct can result in a variety of actions, up to and including a permanent suspension of a console from connecting to Xbox Live."

"Sometimes it’s possible that a previous owner or another user may have performed unauthorized modifications to the console."

Sorry that you're wrong. Just accept it and move along.

Why would there be a public outcry? If legit systems with legit games were being banned that I can see a public outcry but banning console id's backup cards with public headers, which is still under close watch, than there shouldn't be any because the owner should know damn well what he got himself into. Owner's want to unban there console send it in and see what they are after.

Hm... then I guess the only way to avoiding a console ID block on the Nintendo 3DS while playing online... is to use your own dumped ROMs, or the header IDs on ROMs, not the ones that are publicly listed. Just to be on the safe side, of course.

And yes, I do admit that I am wrong about what I said earlier. But if it did happen to me, I'd be complaining and wouldn't stop complaining. Just saying.

"Troll so hard....ni**as can't find me"

That would be legit doe
And maybe even not out of the question (I have no idea if they can or not)... I just didn't want someone thinking this was in anyway a prediction or factual.

Really, though, if GW could pull it off it'd kind of throw a wrench into Ninty's works. I, for one, would make it a point to start using public headers just to fuck w/ them. :-D

Dude, MS and Sony have been doing this for years. Have you seen a huge public outcry? It sucks for people, but Nintendo aren't the bad guys here. Gamestop won't suddenly stop stocking 3DSes. Buyer beware. Buy new if you don't want to take the risk.

So you're saying that all they have to do is set up a new NNID and use a VPN or a new IP address? In other words, Nintendo's doing nothing. They ARE blocking the consoles.

If the unique console ID really was getting blocked, they could easily just buy another console and modify it again.

Yep. Just like you can buy another 360 when yours gets banned. Nintendo makes money with every console (it costs them less than $100 per 3DS to make).

Over a dozen people in this very thread were banned and are very upset. Many others are freaking out and trying to take precautions to not get banned.

Sorry Platinum Lucario but you really don't know what you're talking about.

I don't know, having servers serve just a few more users doesn't really cost much. I mean, the real servers are the consoles, MS' and Sony's servers are just message brokers.

Give it a read if you're ever bored. It makes me laugh and smile from time to time. I swear a teacher should read through them to find every excuse in the book about why something happened. (My dog/grandma/12 year old son/daugher/kid down the street did all those things)

Console bans though are a real thing - and sadly it's a plague in the XBX market since most people with console bans go on to sell them into the 2nd hand market and the unwitting buyer finds out the hard way.
