Im not sure, but I think I saw someone report that he got banned by using his private header so my guess is they found another way to detect backups/roms. Im just spit balling here but maybe they implemented an algorithm to see if the 3ds is using a game card or a ROM. Maybe thats why they didnt ban anyone using .cia files... I know there are a lot of maybes, but it only takes just a spark ;)

indeed because its very difficult to check if the 3ds with one private header that is unique in the entire world to know if the person is not using it online, its like the police, they catch the criminals that go public, the ones that dont its very difficult to know that they are doing something wrong

Request a close friend who has a GW, or a member you can trust a newly purchased game with. Thats all I can tell you, because that was the suggestion another member gave me.

Yes it does. He actually got the real error somehow and fixed it. It was kind of ironic it happened during all this.

Why do you even say something like this if you are not sure, just to cause panic? Spread rumors? We already have enough bullshit going around...
That users made a mistake that have nothing to do with a ban and when he fixed it his 3ds worked fine.
No one have reported a ban using private headers.

Chill....his post doesn't look like he wants to cause an 'outage'.

Well then, my bad

The best thing is to wait to see what exactly is causing the bans because the headers alone may be not the enough in this case. They could have easily just read the header and the game size so if the size doesnzt correspond with the header youd get banned quite easily. Theres more than one way to skin a cat.

Thats because I wasnt, just tried to bring some light to the case but it would seem I was wrong. I apologize

I'm making a tool for Sky3DS users which is like the gateway rom patcher, and would allow you to use your private roms and header dumps. It would modify the template for you. Let me know if anyone's interested in seeing something like this developed.

EDIT: Here's what it looks like - http://puu.sh/fH4Mx/deeec6f638.png

I definitely would've been banned by now were that the case. Constantly playing online with a Smash Bros ROM and a private header that doesn't match the cart size.

I don't use a Sky3DS but I think that would be much appreciated.

It would be good to have and release for our members here.

I've just checked the 1st page again, oh shit, so its confirmed Nintendo have banned a few using public headers. I'm not blowing my trumpet here by the way but I always thought it was just a matter of time!

I believe when you use a header via gateways patcher it fixes those differences. The only thing it doesn't fix is manufacturer. So when you use any header it modifies it to match for the most part while using the unique cart ID from the header still.

Is the private header you're using of the same region as the Console?

I'm asking because I think I'm gonna be in deep shit as all my Original carts are US and my New 3DS XL is EU. Might be easy for Nintendo to ban such cases.
