I would say it's my opinion, but there is proof. Look at Megaman 9, while it is meant to have the graphics it has, it is still a very popular game despite the fact that this '90s+ age group has no reason to like it, but they do. Moreover, despite trying to have the same graphics as Megaman 2, it still doesn't hold up to the graphics of today, so by your logic it shouldn't have sold well because if graphics and gameplay are equally important, the game would have bombed.

Next, let's take another example. Monster Hunter Tri, one of the most well known non-casual games on the Wii, has okay graphics. Now if we compare it to a game like Perfect Dark Zero, despite the fact that that game came out way before it, Monster Hunter Tri still doesn't look good in comparison, but the fact is it sold more than 1,480,000 worldwide by the end of 2009 shows that people did look past the graphics and saw the game for what it actually was.
megaman 9 was a throwback to retro megamans, which is great. you're acting like i'm saying that if a game doesn't have awesome graphics, it shouldn't sell.
you don't understand my logic, you're kinda just filling in the gaps with assumptions

basically what you're assuming is that i think that NES games are shit because we have PS3-level graphics these days. i care about gameplay just as much as graphics.
i don't compare NES graphics to PS3 graphics. that's just idiotic. and your assumption that i would do that is almost as idiotic (no offense).
when i talk about graphics, i mostly mean the comparing of NES to NES, DS to DS or PS3 to PS3 etc etc. i wouldn't compare the graphics of two systems that are totally different in hardware, software, and capabilities.

and how is there "proof" of your opinion? is that even possible? i don't mean to derail this topic any further, so i'll just stop and leave it at this.
opinions are opinions, no matter how strongly you may believe in them.

You're like the only person on this forum that actually understands this and you deserve a fucking medal because every other poster here doesn't seem to be able to grasp that concept and thus goes "WELL IF GRAPHICS MAKE THE GAME WHY DIDN'T NES GAMES GET BITCHED AT FOR LOOKING SHITTY?"

I think it's my logic you don't understand. And plus, I didn't assume anywhere in there, I simply diagnosed what you said, and if my diagnosis was wrong, correct me, but there were no assumptions. If I believed my opinion was fact, I would have stated it as opinion. Moreover, this isn't derailing the thread as at the very base this is what it's about.
but i never made any assumptions about your logic lol. i never claimed to understand your logic either. you did, by saying "so by your logic..."
and i already corrected you in my previous post

you're kinda stating your opinion as fact. especially with the whole "it's been proven/there is proof" stuff. and it really is derailing the thread since it's about epic games being upset about apples app store. not graphics.

I never said you made assumptions about my logic, I just implied that you were indirectly commenting on it, I just directly commented on yours. Also, if you want to re-reail it, then Epic games, while being hypocritical, isn't really doing the wrong thing by saying what they are, they're simple doing what they can to make money. I don't think it's wrong, but it's a little dick-ish. And yeah, once again that was what I call a "defensive accident" stating what I said as fact, that was wrong (well there's no was of knowing whether it's right or wrong, guess that's what we call the "unknown known"), but I can't refute the proof based on my diagnosis (that would be lying).

They already have that: it's called an iPhone. Get with the times.

It's statements like this that lead me to believe you don't really have any idea what you're talking about:

...As soon as I read that, the entire neighbourhood heard my slightly disturbing laughter echoing menacingly.

iPhone is an overpriced, technologically backwards device with 0 useful function buttons and a crappy battery life time.

A *gaming device* needs to have ways to *input* commands. They're called *buttons*. Why are they better than "software buttons" on the screen? Because they *don't* obstruct it. THINK for a while.

Function *BUTTONS*. A, B, X, Y, Square, Triangle, Circle, Cross, Start, Select, L, R... rings a bell? Not "functions", "function buttons". Starts the same, has a different meaning. You'd know if you read the post from top to bottom.

i think you're even confusing yourself with your overdone attempts at sounding literate *-* you're not really making sense, or your specific typos (not bashing you at all - don't care about typos usually) make it harder to understanding what you're trying to say.

anyway.
i don't care for iphone specifically, as a phone or gaming device. but i sure do love me some ipod touch and even then, i'd much prefer my PSP or DS over it.
i think it's nice that they overcharge you for the phone itself and then have a very cheap store to purchase apps from.
but it's been said before that any "real" gamer isn't going to come home from work and get ready for a night of hardcore fruit ninja or angry birds on their iphone.
epic games has nothing to worry about.

Because most of the time when people brag about ps3 and psp graphics they compare them to something else calling them ugly and
stuff. They don't go "hey this psp game have better graphics than this one."

That where people go off about how X game with bad graphics was more fun and sell more than X game with HD graphics.

You're right, my bad.

iPhone isn't a "hardcore" gaming platform, you're right, everybody knows that.

However many people still find some of their games more fun, which shows how much the console world is failing.

At the time, the NES didn't look shitty, Law. At that time, the graphics were awesome. Much like we look at the PS1, and say that it has shitty graphics...at the time they were state of the art.

you're saying exactly what he said though. we're saying you can't compare two different systems because they were made in different times/generations.
i think you misread Law's post.

Games back then were judged by their graphics too. Go look at a Gamepro magazine, and you can see that every NES game reviewed had a Graphics category with their rating scale.

Some games on the NES had superb graphics for the system, Super Mario Bros 3 for example. Many games had shitty graphics. Then, just like today, you couldn't judge the game by the graphics. Many games had incredible graphics, but the game play and controls were atrocious (pressing up to jump on a platformer???). Others had crappy graphics, yet they got the gameplay and controls spot-on. Then a select few managed to nail the graphics and the controls.

On the contrary, it's very comparable to today's games.

I'll just toss my two cents in. You want to pay 99 cents for a phone game? You'll get exactly what it is. A game that'll amuse you for an hour or two. With no real gameplay to get you to stay interested. At least with most games. Take Angry Birds for example. It's a type of game that you can find on EVERY. SYSTEM. I don't claim to understand why that specific version of that kind of game got so popular, but it's nothing new. And the only reason it got so popular at all is because everyone has to be hip and trendy and other SHIT like that is that everyone and their mom, literally, owns an iPhone. Those are casual gamers. THEY are the ones that are killing the market by accepting shitty games like Angry Birds as "good".

Casual gamers that like to play games like Angry Birds and nothing else weren't part of "the market" to begin with, though. They're not being taken away from standard consoles, it's rather that they're not being pulled into them.

And I'm the first person to say that some genres don't belong on the device. Not every mechanic can be solved by adding another virtual button, which is the approach some developers are taking. I will also argue that a place remains for proper handheld gaming devices like the PSP.

But you're still talking out of your ass.

What genres belong on a device you *can't* control properly? Let's face it, the iPhone won't become a proper "gaming platform" until Apple releases a game pad for it. And I mean an official gamepad, not the fugly third-party ones I've seen on the internet that either obstruct your view or make your pricy phone look like a black brick.

You can think whatever you want about me. You can believe with all your heart that whoever disagrees with you doesn't know what he's/she's talking about. Frankly I don't give a damn, so have a nice day.

Even you yourself state that the iPhone is not a happy marriage of a handheld console and a phone (plus GPS and other stuff I mentioned earlier that I don't feel like re-writting). What I'd *want* to see is a happy one.
