Hacking EmuNand Update Questions

I've been looking at tons of posts for the better part of today and still have a couple of questions before I try to update my EmuNand to 8.1.

I am currently on 5.01 Sys and 5.01 Emu with exfat and a exfat SD card using SX OS 2.8 beta.

I plan on using Choix and have my 8.1 files ready. My goal is mainly to be able to play newer games. Should I keep my EmuNand at 5.01, update my EmuNand to 8.1 using Choix? My nands may be linked because booting into the SysNand shows the history of the games I was playing in EmuNand. Does that matter?

My other questions are that if I only update my Emu do I need AutoRCM if my Sys is still lower? I'm not worried about fuses unless it will mess with OFW or CFW booting. I just want to make sure I don't end up with the black screens others have had happen.

Would it be easier to just update both to 8.1?

You should use ChoiDujourNX to update your emuNAND to 8.1.0.

You do not need to install AutoRCM to preserve your fuses as long as you are keeping your sysNAND low. However, is there a reason you want your sysNAND low?

Not really no. I figured it would be easier if I wasn't trying to use my sysnand to go online. I have another clean switch for online stuff. I also don't mind if fuses blow and I can't downgrade. Would it be easier or better to do it differently?

I don't think it's easier one way or the other. If you're using a different Switch for online, is there a reason you're using emuNAND?

I'm using the emuNAND as a safety precaution. That way if I mess anything up I still have a sysNAND to work with. Unfortunately, I didn't take a backup before I started to use homebrew. Otherwise I would just update the sysNAND officially and recreate my emuNAND. I stayed away from installing nsp files. I just ran my cartridge backup xci files. That was before SX OS implemented the emuNAND option. I know I'm not banned yet but I fear that would do it if I tried.

Having a NAND backup stored safely somewhere makes you as safe as using an emuNAND. The difference is the latter is much less convenient than the former. If you're not using this Switch online and it's unpatched, I'd recommend ditching the emuNAND entirely. If you do plan on using this Switch for online play, I'd recommend using an offline emuNAND for hacking.

If you want to use a warm boot method of entering CFW or emuMMC without a jig, like PegaScape, that may be a reason to keep OFW low. But you are on 5.1 and right now it only supports up to 4.1

Then I can't go to online without get ban? As I understand I can't go to online via emuMMC with cleen nand right?

I went ahead and updated my emuNAND last night to 8.1. My sysNAND is still at 5.01. Everything went well. Thanks for the help with the questions Lacius.
