I am back. My Switch's Micro SD card reader got changed at a phone store, (it took a week and a half!) so I was happy... until even the brand-new reader STILL SAYS "1-bit SD Card"!!! Have I wasted 100$ of money for NOTHING!?? Am I really that DOOMED to put CFW!??

I have this issue too... I changed the card reader with no success. I keep getting error notifications, slow transfert rates, and this 1bit mode thing... Connectors look good under magnifying glass, no missing pins. I'll try to check the connectors with a multimeter. I don't know what else to do then :(

Hmmm, this one is kinda hard because Nintendo designed the connector really badly. They only fixed it on the OLED and lite models.

It could be:
1. Bad placement of sd card reader
2. An actual pin is missing

1 can be fixed by reseating the connector or replacing the reader

Now 2 is tricky because Atmosphere kinda doesn't support it. When it tries to get keys, it doesn't load. I had to ask CTCaer for help since it crashes on my old Switch. He gave me a special Hekate build that dumps the keys or something and stores it on the SD card. Atmosphere not supporting 1 bit mode started around FW 9 iirc on a later atmosphere release.

Your options if no. 2,

1. Find a cellphone store to somehow bring back the pin or solder all the wires directly to the connector of the reader.
2. Get a bigger SSD and use that (personally did this one and use SD card for small games and gave it to my brother). Don't even think of putting large games on the SD, it takes forever to load games like Xenoblade 2.

2 means no emummc, so you can't use it legitly due to hard drive being bigger than normal.

How did you put SSD in your switch?

I bust these out for customers in 2 hours, thats a long time to wait. I would never charge someone $100 for that and not test to see if it works. What I've seen from shops is insane!

Had this issue on 2 switches brought in for repair and replacing connector fixed them. Pins can all be there but if one important pin is loose or bridges pin next to it you will get issues. Im usa based if anyone wants to send me any repairs.

What this guy did proves your point.

Nice. I really admire people with soldering skills. I couldn't solder a truck to a steel building let alone tiny solder points like that.

Even for my reed switch installed on my right joycon, I paid a professional to do it for me.

Is the black part where the pins sit made of plastic? I was wondering why it did not melt when heat gun was applied.

Base is plastic, ground and pins are metal.

After repairing many switch's it would be safe to assume the tension from clipping the nand in over time can break a pin etc. Most clip in flush and there is very little to no tension but sometimes you can feel the tension and some will unclip themselves. Always try to clip the reader in with the least tension as possible. You can try bending the flex a little to reduce the tension.

I got it through telegram. Based on what I remember and recently googled

256GB eMMC module : t.me/A256GSwitch (telegram) or TachibanaSuzume#0741 (discord)

I ordered through that guy. Who knows how expensive/cheap it is now given the shortage.

You basically get the whole eMMC board. Just backup your NAND, make a fake backup of the new NAND. Replace the files of the new nand with your backup, restore it, then use a tool to resize the nand (It will only be 32gb if you don't resize it). I kind of wrote a tutorial on how to do that with a 1 bit mode switch.

I've bought 3 from him. Annoyingly, the 3rd one was the one that ended up with 1 bit mode. That one had a lot of drama. I bought it a month before covid. When California closed up, it ended up getting delivered 6 months later to the address.

were you able to fix the third one with the problem of 1-bit mode?

No. Cellphone shops here are idiots and cowards. Like I told them what to solder and they fucked it up. I ended up:

1. Asking CTCaer for help to boot into Atmosphere (Atmosphere didn't work at a later atmosphere update)
2. Slowly transferring SD games to eMMC
3. Backed the eMMC took like 12 hours
4. Installed new eMMC
5. Restored the backup
6. Followed my tutorial to resize it
7. Gave it to my non-gamer brother who only cares about NES games

If I had better soldering skills/equipment, I would probably have just soldered the wires directly to the reader since 3 pins broke on mine. I really hate Nintendo for making that connector shoddy.

    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.

the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
