Alright, before you all go off the walls with this release of Atmosphere (I'm also pretty excited) let me bring you down back to reality for a second to remind you of two things.

1. EmuMMC is still in beta testing. It's highly advised that inexperienced users wait until Atmosphere 0.9.1 to try out the feature.

2. You are NOT invincible to bans. Don't expect to be able to go online with """backups""" and get away with it. You'll still get banned and you'll look like an idiot.

Just wait and don't do anything stupid. If you can do these two things then you'll be fine.

For anyone who may not understand emunand does not protect at all when you connect to Nintendo's servers.

It merely allows you a private box to play in to do your dirty deeds so that when you want to go out to the rest of the world you don't have to feel like a dirty hobo.

Long story short: Buy a second non-Mariko Switch and use it for hacking. Personally, I'd use L4T-Ubuntu as it's the best in terms of software options right now. Use the Noob images by Regfriger8or if you find Ubuntu to be intimidating. But there's more over the Horizon coming!...

...I shall take my leave...

sx os emunand does
been using it since it got released

I'm still confused to what the fuck EmuNand on the Switch is, Is it like on the 3DS where you could have CFW when your console boots without having to go into RCM first?

For fw v1.0.0-3.0.0 it's possible to boot now to v8.0.1 emunand without going into rcm.

No. EmuNAND (or EmuMMC as it's called) is making a new partition/nand completely separate to the sysnand (the one that the switch uses). It makes everything you do offline very safe/unbanable. It's not coldboot like you just suggested it to be.

Cool, so it's like a condom for your nand

Long story short, there are no mariko units currently in the market. Just ipatched units.

Is Mariko supposed to be one of or both of those two hardware revisions that have been rumored? Either way, they ain't getting hacked as easily as the OG Switch. Not unless Nvidia developed a problem with responding to a security flaw that can be initiated by using a fucking paper clip.

Yeah I think Mariko is going to be at least one of the two new switches that have been "confirmed". Everyone thought Mariko was a new revision with the exploits totally fixed because of a new Tegra chip, but given that they came out with ipatched units shipped with latest fw, that solved most of their problems.

So I think the changes Mariko was speculated to have will be seen on both of these new switch models even if only one is named Mariko, since I think they'll have different chips (unless one is just OC'd by default). I could be wrong but to me that makes sense.

Since patching existing models is more cost effective than replacing parts in them, especially when you know you are going to have two new models that you can design with all the fixes you need without wasting money scrapping exploitable chips/motherboards in favour of a redesign (hence ipatched).

Again I could be totally wrong, but that's what I think, so don't quote me on it :)

This is true and perhaps atmosphere will add auto-90dns mods? Or some kind soul will add it?

When thing's are free/open source they are usually not optimal first release, but they are always the best in the long run. This is a very beta release, so lets wait and see!

people want to use it instantly
it breaks for them and they come here to complain about it

They can use it instantly. Whats stopping them?
DNS is a networking setup. Anyone can very easily add it to their setup. In fact, if you have 90dns added to your switch, when you create a backup to use for emummc.bin creation those settings will copy over to the emunand, so no need to setup twice.

People are always complaining about things. Its just noise. The bugs will get reported and fixed, such is life?

The most important thing about emunand is that patched units need it to avoid permanent bricks due to not having a coldboot exploit to restore a nand backup

The difference being that AFAIK the 3DS internal ID reset every time you factory reset the system, so you could fool Nintendo making it think you had two separate systems.
In the case of the switch, the device ID is attached to the NAND and there's nothing you can do to change it. A ban in EMUnand also bans your sysnand

The paper clip is not in any way a security flaw. RCM is supposed to be secure, it wasn't.
