hi guys
i currently have a xbox360 with jtag/rgh mod. I would like to install emulators, in particular i would like agood arcade emualtors (like mame or final burn) and pc engine/pc engine cd.

I know that on the original xbox there is final bunr legend, with more then 3800 working games and it is still supported. In the xbox 360 there is final burn next but if i'm not wrong it is not supported yet and i think that it can run less roms than final burn legend.

And what about the pc engine/pc engine cd emulators? Are they better on xbox or xbox 360?

What do you suggest? Is it better to buy an original xbox?

thanks

Emulation on the 360 is pathetic.
Apart from barely out of WIP emulators and some meh compatibility ones, you're far better off with the original Box.

You could try and put the original Xbox emulators on the 360.
Idk if it's any better.

ah!
well but i think that original xbox emulators don't work on xbox 360...
Do you suggest to buy an original xbox if I want a large compatibility list of arcade games?
On youtube i see some videos of Final BUnr Alpha NExt for xbox 360: it seems that there are 5800 games, but i think that only 1100 of them are different (the box "hide clones" is cheked in the video..). Then there is the MAME for xbox360, and in the game list there are about 4000 different games.
In the Final Burn Legend for original xbox there are 3800 different games.

Do you know more details about the compatibility of arcade games on xbox or xbox 360 emulators?

thanks

If you truly care about emulation then I suggest a android box or perhaps a Raspi.
The Xbox and Wii are equal when it comes to emulation so you might want to consider getting a Wii (Wii Pro controllers are wireless iirc)

Nope, I don't keep up to date about compatibility lists.
Bit of google work should net you one or two lists.

ah ok. Well I already have emulators on my pc :)
But it could be good to play them on my Sony crt, the graphic is better i think for the emulation of retroconsole...

Does only Wii have emulators? Not on Wii U?

The Wii U has emulators and is fully backwards compatible with Wii and Gamecube, both of which you can play on the gamepad (not all Wii games though). It can also emulate DS games which every other system can't. If an Emulator isn't avaliable on Wii U you can just play the Wii version of it, and you can unlock the processor to run faster for performance improvements (though it doesn't work with anything except homebrew).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Only thing is you need to buy an app to permanently mod it.

I have the Wii U, but not modded.

1) First of all, is it necessary to mod the console, am I right? Is it quite simple? I think that it could be a good guide?
2) in this video it seems that Wii U has a lot of emulators
3) I can use emulators with Retroarch, as described here?
4) If I want to play Wii or GameCube, I suppose I will load the games stored in a SD card, am i Right? I have to download specific emulators for the 2 Nintendo console? Or do I have to use Retroarch?

many thanks!

It's necessary to mod it, here's a great guide: https://wiiu.guide/ also, never use a video guide. These are usually outdated and there have been incidents involving bricks originating from them. You'll also want to hack vWii, I don't know any guides of the top of my head, a quick look at the forums should get you it though. Also a game isn't required anymore, the name of it is also on the tip of my tounge. I'll try find some helpful material just can't think at the moment. Retroarch will work for older consoles but for N64 PS1 etc. you'll want to use vWii. Virtual console Injects will work for DS games. I load all my Gamecube and Wii games from my SD card as well. Nintendont can be used for playing Gamecube games, and there are now fowarders for playing them with the Wii U gamepad here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-on-wii-u-virtual-console-injecting-games.483007/page-75#post-7583295. I haven't done this myself (yet), I got this off /r/Wiiuhacks. Also for unlocking the processor speed for emulation in vWii:https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wiivc-injector-script-gc-wii-homebrew-support.483577/page-98. Also found that link in /r/Wiiuhacks.

EDIT:vWii modding guide:https://wiiu.guide/vwii-modding

I updated my post with a newer vWii guide. If you want to play any Wii games or Gamecube games you'll have to hack your vWii.

Seeing as vWii is offical, definitely not, I never had any issues with Nintendont either. In fact, you can play Gamecube games in widescreen and they work fine, you can play Super Mario Sunshine at 60fps like on Dolphin too.

I know you are a lot more of an expert on this one, but I am pretty sure original xbox emulators running on the 360 won't actually use the 360's additional power. Basically they will run the same way xbox games do and thus would be at the same level of functionality as the original xbox. I could be wrong on this one, that was more of an educated guess.

To my knowledge, the xbox 360 emulates the original xbox so it would be like running an emulator in an emulator, and the emulator in the emulator is on weak emulated hardware which is slowed down by the actual hardware emulating it. Basically not feasible. I'm not claiming to be an expert on this either just so everybody knows, I might be completely wrong.

ah very good, thanks! But if it is an official app, why I have to hack my wii U in order to play gamecube/wii games? I need to do it only because we want to play games on SD card?

You need to hack it to use any emulators or play Gamecube games. Virtual Console is an option for older consoles though it got a bad rap on Wii U and the Wii shop will be shutting down over the next year.

Runs on the same resources as the original Xbox had.
It could work, it could also not work.
Either way, Original Xbox or Xbox emulator on 360, you're stuck on 733 Mhz of emulated CPU and 64 MB of RAM.

I seen people put an emulator on a emulator in an emulator on a emulator on a device.
It worked.
Emulated hardware still works the same if it's on emulated hardware or real hardware.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work, I've done it before. It's just very impractical.
