So, I'm a Huge NOOB. I'm trying to setup A Snes Emulator and VbaGx on my Wii. So, I only have the bare essentials of HBC installed on 4.2U and a nand backup from Bootmii. I also have the Homebrew browser.

Anyways... WHat i'm trying to accomplish here is to install the said emulators, and have designated channels to access them easier, instead of going from the HBC. Do I need any additional ISO's (I also need help with installing those, as I heard the increase game compatibility) And I want to know where to put the roms once I have downloaded the said emulators, and which specific folders and areas for roms in each emulator. Thanks!

Erm...if you're new to wii hacking, punemu will be a bit too advanced. And the solution isn't that hard.

If I checked things correctly, both snes9x and vbaGX need (or may need?) IOS58* to work perfectly. You can install this IOS with this little proggy.

"Installing" either that program or the emulators requires nothing more than placing the boot.dol file (the description and the image are optional) on your SD card or USB drive in an "\apps" subfolder. In other words: put the files of the abovementioned link in the following position:

SD:\apps\ios58-installer\boot.dol
SD:\apps\ios58-installer\icon.png
SD:\apps\ios58-installer\meta.xml

(or USB:\apps\ios58-installer\boot.dol, USB:\apps\ios58-installer\icon.png, USB:\apps\ios58-installer\meta.xml)

Then go to the HBC and run it.

As for the channel...if you have a forwarder channel, then it is required to install the files from snes9x and vbaGX in the same fashion. If you have a full channel, then that isn't needed.

EDIT: as for the location of the roms: that doesn't matter. Both emulators have a way to browse through both your SD card and your USB drive (if there is one). So other than keeping things a bit orderly, you can throw your games anywhere you want to.

I hope this helps.

*note: there is a huge difference between "ISO" and "IOS". An iso is an image of a disc, whereas an ios is a way for the wii to handle input and output.

THanks So much! But here's another question,
( I'm not to that step yet, but more knowledge is still needed XD)
If i were to run a setup this way, External Hard Drive for USB loader, and SD for Emulators, Homebrew, Do I need a SDHC, or will 2gb be way enough?

If you have your hard drive formatted as FAT32, you can use that drive for storing emulated roms as well. I've got a FAT32 drive that stores both my wii games, a whole bunch of emulators and other homebrew, an emulated nand, and a few roms that go with said emulators.

But to answer your question: I'd say that 2 GB is way enough. IIRC, a snes rom is about a megabyte in size and a VGA one about double that size (or half, for gameboy color and classic gameboy games). So that gives you storage room for...somewhat over a thousand roms? Should be plenty sufficient.

(note: if I were you, I'd keep around 500 megabyte free so you can make a nand backup from time to time...just saying)

I'll admit, I'm not even on that part yet. I'm running 4.2U have bootmii installed as boot2, and have the HBC.
Now the next step as from what i've heard is IOS or the Trucha bug.
Which Ios's do I need to Install? I plan on running USB loader, vbagx, wad manager, and other crap.
But what are the Mainline IOS that are needed for apps?
My HBC is 1.08 on IOS 61

use modmii and install 236(if you have not),223(hermes base37),250(rev20,21base56), for triiforce you need rev17(use slot 249)

What's modmii? Hackmii?

Never mind. I'm so stupid. XD
Soo.. after this I'll be able to run everything? Emus, Usb loader, Wiiware, VC?

I have had some issues with forwarders on the 1.08 HDC being able to load off a DVD. They load fine but with a forwarder on the new Wiis I do they only see they DVD IF I go through HBC to emu. Any reason for this to happen?

Get a proper Forwarder that uses AHRPROT
