Hacking EASY Wii browser!

What your doing is creating an IP ADDRESS for the DOMAIN which is used. Like localhost is 127.0.0.1 you can protect your windows computer from bad website's which cripples your computer (when using Spy Bot Search and DESTROY you already been using this option).

SpyBot protects you computer by listing all the bad website's and chaining then to the 127.0.0.1 IP ADDRESS which means they dont load on your system.

Nintendo or for that matter any hardware which uses an ADDRESS instead of an IP will use the DNS service (Hosts file is the only thing that effects this, some people run their own DNS server).

This will only work with internet sharing through the computer and require you to have your Wii setup using the PC with internetsharing(or any technicle equivelent) and not a router/switch....

ProdigySim, It's for any connection that goes through you computer. An attatchment that works as a wireless AP will work out fine, and there are many such devices out there for the DS/PSP.

This trick is for any connection that goes through your computer. Try it out Harsky and tell me if it works.

You're right kknn, PHProxy just buggers up at certain points. I'll take that line off my page.

What do you mean from your computer? My Wii connects to a wireless router, and my computer is connected to the router it via LAN...

Easy, use your own DNS server..

Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter is most likely not required for this "hack". For those of us accessing the internet through a wireless router, you can (depending on your equipment) set up a static route using the same info that is in the host file. done.

I can't be sure 100%, I'd need to test it out first.

But my theory is that some routers might have DNS options like the HOST file Windows have.

Basically the host file does this : When the computer tries to access an address, it checks in the host file first for something matching. If it doesn't find anything, it sends that address as a request. If it finds a match, it replaces the address by the IP number you wrote, thus redirects the request to a new website.

I use the Host file on my personal network because I can't 'see' your Address from outside, let's say a HTTP server. For example if your server is www.myserver.net, if you type that in your browser you'll end up on your router's configuration system, because you've been trying to access the server/network from the INSIDE. And the www.myserver.com sends the request to your IP, which your Router is taking care of.

The only way to see your server from INSIDE the network is by typing your network's IP instead of address/Internet IP. So to avoid having to do that everytime, the host file will redirect it for you to your network IP instead of internet IP when you type in www.myserver.net.

So if the router can basically do the same thing, redirect the oss.nintendowhatever.com as shown in the example in the first post, it would be possible to do this without the WiFi dongle.

But since every router are different it might not be possible with yours either, I dunno.

Thank you, but this isn't the first "hack." It's a simplified version of the DNS stuff people have been doing lately. The biggest difference is that all the set up is on my web space, rather than the user's own computer.

I just thought of something...
We can surf the Wii Shop with a customized Firefox. Can do use this hack to access Wii Shop from the same URL? And can we buy VC games this way?
Pretty useless, but still interesting.
The main reason is if we learn the Japanese Wii Shop-URL, then maybe we can using this hack to surf to the japanese Wii Shop and buy Japanese VC titles that are not released in US yet...
