    Go here now: http://heranbago.com/wii/
Or just get the host file here: http://heranbago.com/wii/hosts.zip
This is faster, easier, and free in comparison to the other "hack."
It tweaks your localhost file rather than DNS.

It's as easy as copying or editing a file on your computer. It'll only work if your Wii connects to the internet through your computer though!

    Manual explanation:
This is a beta, btw. =P

What do you mean from your computer? My Wii connects to a wireless router, and my computer is connected to the router it via LAN...

This setup is intended for like, Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapters, or those things that plug into your computer and act as an access point. I don't know what the story with routers is. My meathod is very similar to the existing one, but without the user installing a bunch of software or doing a lot of work.

    Is there an address bar?

Or some other way to manually type in a URL of your choice?

Or does one have to find everything through google? (which probably wouldn't be too hard)

Big corps never let us use stuff in ways it wasn't intended.... Even if it improves their products. They probably has plans to release a browser package at around $70.

They can stop this via a firmware upgrade right?

Maybe if they add more security on to it, but as far as I can see no, they can't stop us from redirecting where the browser goes seeing its a stripped down version of opera and nothing some specifically built for the Wii Shop

This whole thing is very similar to the PSP browser, actually.

edit: Joystiq's video is about the one of the hard/inconvenient "hack"s, which mine is based off.

VVV Yup! Thanks! happy 400 posts me! [IMG]

If you can set the DNS settings and stuff on it then you can do basically what the Wipeout PSP hackers did...
You just have to run a DNS server that uses the host settings like you figured out how to use with the wifi adapter.

Frankly, if you follow the exact instructions of the PSP Wipeout trick except using the Wii's wifi settings and stuff you should be able to get the exact same thing.

Or, you can change a line of text in one file.

You're absolutely right though. If you're willing to set the DNS up, then this essentially is the PSP browser hack. The DNS thing really gives you more control if you know what you're doing. However I doubt that the majority of people who want to use the Wii browser even know what a DNS is. I didn't untill yesterday.

Just wondering. Do I really need the Nintendo Wifi dongle or can my netgear (which my DS can go online with) still work?
