To be specific: this wouldn't be EA as it is now buying out their investors, it's a private equity firm looking to purchase the company. They can't really get much worse than they are now, but I don't expect the new ownership would do anything to make them better, either.

EA is one of the worst in the industry so. Maybe a Chinese company (backed by the CCP) wants to buy them ?
Akshually, it appears that Jared Kushner along with a Saudi private equity firm are buying it, in what will be the biggest leveraged buyout in corporate history...

The private equity playbook says they will strip away all the prime assets (selling those for top dollar, to increase profits), squeezing as much money as possible out of the remaining bits (so, layoffs + increased prices (so, more microtransactions?)), and when they have sucked all the blood out of it, selling the lifeless husk off to whomever wants it...

TL;DR --> they want to make as much money as possible, and making quality games ain't anywhere on the priority list.

If it means the death of EA in the end, I guess it's an improvement.

What a shame the nice, friendly, and welcoming opensource company is now going private.

I always thought it would be nice of Apple bought them. Turn Apple ARM devices into a proper gaming platform, as well as continuing to publish on all other platforms.

That's a nice dream but Apple gives around 0.001 fucks about gaming and they have made that clear by their actions.

In fairness, the Saudis may inject a massive amount of $$ into EA Sports and actually make games that people want to play.

I know, it sounds stupid the minute I wrote it...
