Dual Strike v0.3
Shump Game for the DS
[2437]dualstrike.png
Shoot 'em up Homebrew game for the Nintendo DS.

[title:Developer's Notes and Game Controls]Description:
Dual strike came around as idea to see if it was possible for a player to control
and work with both screens at the same time.
The end result of this is a cross between asteroids and Ikaruga.

Game play:
The player controls 2 ships at the same time, one on each screen.

Each ship also has there own colour, 1 blue 1 red.

Each ship also fires bullets based on their colour.

There are 3 colours of asteroids; blue, red and gray.

The play must shoot the right asteroids with the right colours, this is done by allowing the ships to change screen.

The ships are moved at the same time, but shooting it done by a per ship basis.

When a ship gets hit it will get knocked out of the game area, the ship will return after a short while.
The game is lost when both ships are lost at the same time.

In game controls:
left and right - change direction of ship
up - moves ship in direction
Y - Shoots blue bullets
A - Shoots Red bullets
L - Switches ships.

This might be the one and only release of this game, it was started as a way of learning PALib and DS coding and tonight is the first time I've spent any time on it in the last 5 months.

The end result is more of a proof of concept game that should show sprites on both screen, colision detection, scoring (including score board) and score saving.

Main things missing:
Being able to change the control method from the main main
Variable timing for loosing a ship.
Better asteroid generation.

I could have sworn that this had already been done in another homebrew, or maybe it was a commercial game.

You could be thinking of the dual-screen PacMan clone.

Are you referring to Chronos Twin?

Ninji & Zarbi is probably the best of the "control separate characters on each screen" since you have to do different things with each character. Really fun, especially with the combo system.

Hi all I'm the dev of Dual strike (or Double Strike as it's recently been renamed).
I came up with the basic idea for the game back when the DS was first announced, but it took me this long to find the time and effort to make the game.

V0.4 is currently being worked on which should include a GFX refresh, new name and hopefully some code updates which should allow the rest of the work I need to do be done quicker.
