Hacking DSTWO Question

I recently bought my son a DSTWO card for his 3ds. He will not be getting this until Christmas. When I turned on the internet today on his 3ds, it recommended I do an update. I have had hacked wii's and r4 cards in the past, so I know that updates are generally not recommended. Is this still not a good idea?

When I bought the DSTWO card, I paid extra for it to come already programmed with the software.

I wouldn't care, but his 3DS is an ambassador, and it won't let me go to the shop channel or check for more downloads without the update.

Updates block flash carts in most instances, so yeah good choice.

Do you know what firmware (not EOS version) the DSTwo is on? Try getting the latest update file for it and running it to see the current version.

No I don't, I haven't even put it in his system. If you can tell me how, I would e glad to tell you. This is my first DSTWO, and i have been reading aout needing other systems to update it and such...not sure how to do any of that. Didn't need that with the r4.

Even with the R4 the only time you need another system is if you update the system further than the cart.

Before I go any further, the DSTWO card already has a file called "DSTWOUpdate.dat"

Should I replace this with the file you sent me?
