best witches is already been release in dpg

I opend up a folder that has dpg files from my previously when I had moonshell. And looks like it does not support dpg videos. I think Team SC will add dpg playback in future releases BUT I dont think its that important since it plays alot of different types of videos >_

@ A Gay little Cat Boy: What 'symptoms' are you getting ?? (sorry can't be bothered to go through all the posts find out)

Did you see my earlier post on the experimentation I did
  • I have noticed that when starting iPlayer you DO get 2 white screens first, then the bottom screen flashes up a blue/black vertical stripes screen before the player controls/file selector pops up...

    * IF you get the flash of blue/black on the bottom screen, then the 2 white screens
    - check your 'default' skin folder (in '/_ds2video/ui/') - you might have a corrupt file or something
    * IF you DON'T get the blue/black flash on the bottom screen but only the 2 white screens
    - check to see if the 'asc10.fon.bin' file exists. If it does it might be corrupted
    * IF you end up with white screen on top & blue/black striped on bottom screen
    - check to see if the 'globalsettings.ini' file exists
I'm wondering if you may have a problem with your SD card that may be causing corruption somehow - have you tried another MSD card ??

So how does this work? I read something about the Video Player using extensions or formats that are .mkv or something. Does it have to be videos that are of .mkv extensions or can you get a video of a different extension and then change the extension to .mkv?

EX: You have a .avi video and you change the extension .avi to .mkv. Does that work?

I don't really get it

NO a avi video is avi and a mkv video is mkv extension are not magical

I'm not sure if there is an easier way to explain it but here goes.....

Try to think of Video Files as 'containers' - one container has the label of 'AVI' on it & the other has 'MKV' label on it & each type of container can only hold one type of item.

So as an example in a 'real life situation' - if these containers were oil drums with labels on them, then one drum can only contain Petrol & the other Diesel - but you couldn't put both into one drum
  • Lets say your car is a Petrol car - you would then use the drum with the label of 'Petrol' on it to get it to run
Now, what if someone swapped the labels on the Drums around ( Petrol Diesel ) - what would happen then ???

You would then end up putting Diesel into a Petrol car - & although your car 'may' start, it will eventually 'conk out' 'cos it can't handle the type of fuel put into it (the process of burning Diesel is different from the process of burning Petrol)
This is what simplistically what you are trying to do with changing file extensions around -
A program will look @ the file extension (the label of the Drum) then use certain code (the engine fuel burning process for the type of fuel) to display the contents (or run the 'engine'), but if the contents are of the wrong type (i.e Diesel instead of Petrol) then something is bound to go wrong

I really hope you can understand that !!!!

Turns on white, sits there for a few seconds, then flashes what I think is blue...I am colour blind, at the bottom screen, then stays white
Tried everything and still the very same thing every time

Yes, I can understand that.

So the only video extensions that the Supercard Video Player can read right now is .mkv video extensions, or can it support other video extensions as well? If it can support other video extensions, then a conversion from .MP4 to .AVI will work, won't it?

I probably read the Beta Video Player news that said it only supports .mkv video extensions atm.

Yes it should as long as you convert the whole file & not just change the file extension - this is what video converters like 'SUPER ©' does

It 'Decodes' (or unpacks) the original video file (MP4) to a sort of 'raw state' of pictures and sounds & then 'Encode' (or repacks) the files in a different way, based on the format you are changing it to (AVI) - a bit like uncompressing a RAR file & then compressing it into a ZIP file

Well look at that, I'm using a converter for my movie files! I made a comment earlier about how nice it was to not have to convert and I'm doing it anyway lol.

These are the specs I'm using and it looks pretty good. These are avi files I'm making.

Video:
Codec: xvid
Frame Size: 480x320
Bitrate: 1024
Framerate: 29.97

Audio:
Codec: mp3

Well, I JUST converted my .MP4 video file to .AVI file and it works and plays fine. There isn't any lagging issue. This is also my first successful video conversion. Lucky me

EDIT: Nvm, just found it.

Video

Frame Width: 368
Frame Height: 208
Data Rate: 500 kbps
Total Bitrate: 564 kbps
Frame Rate: 29 fps

Audio

Bit Rate: 64 kbps

The ones I know for sure work are AVI, MKV, FLV, and WMV files. There could be more, but those are the ones I've tried (hopefully MP4 will be supported in the future).

Hmm weird - to me that sounds like the same effect I got when it can't find the 'default' skin folder, yet you say you've tried everything so I'm guessing you've already checked that the folder exists

Further checking shows that
> IF a graphic is missing from the 'default' folder - it should still boot up to the control screens, except the missing graphic isn't shown (obvious really)
> If the 'uisetting.ini' file is missing/corrupt - it will still boot up just the colours of text etc will all be white
> If the Bootup screen (logo.bmp) is missing - you get 2 white screens but it then goes to the controls
> If any of the folders inside the 'default' folder are missing - it'll still boots up

So it all points to the actual folder & not the files within - puzzling

If only it was that simple. First, the more advanced software (like mplayer and possibly videolan) will ignore the extension and analyze the file itself to determine the container format. Most software originally written for un*x (linux/osx) is like this including OpenOffice. This plugin is also that way (I just renamed an avi file to mkv and it worked fine). In some cases, the software will support file formats even though those extensions don't show up in the file open dialog. As an example, the ogm container is actually supported but ogm files will not show up. If you rename that ogm to mkv, it works.

Think of most video players as a car that can handle almost any type of fuel, from ethanol to gasoline to kerosene to jet fuel (variable compression engine). There are two ways to determine the fuel being used, either look at the label on the container (extension) or analyze the fuel mixture in the tank. Also, sometimes the fuel container has a pump nozzle that is too big (a file extension that does not show up) so you have to use an adapter (rename the file) to get it into the gas tank (to show up in the GUI).

Actually, mp4 and ogm are supported but you need to change the extension to something else like avi or mkv. Keep in mind that h.264 video has serious performance problems, so many mp4 files won't work very well and a mp4 file can contain either mpeg4 (like divx/xvid) or h.264 video. I tested some files I converted for my phone (which does not support h.264, just divx/xvid in a mp4 container) and they worked fine after changing the extension.
