I'm using iMenu and it works perfectly fine for me...did you guys forget to copy something from the zip?

I put _ds2video in root,
the plug files are in the imenu folder
I'm still getting white screen..so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong
did you make an ini for it and make sure the ini is pointing to the plg file in the iMenu folder?

yep I did..

[plug setting]
icon=fat1:/_imenu/_images/movie.bmp
mask=fat1:/_imenu/_images/movie_mask.bmp
name=movie
file=/_imenu/_plg/movie.plg

Gamebreaker: No Zoom Mode that keeps aspect ratio, come one - most videos noawadays are in 16:9...

divx and xvid avis work fine.

• Support text color change
• Support text backgraound color change.

Am I the only one who can't find this (the last) option?
There's a gray background - you can only make it lighter but you can't disable it, nor change the color.

BTW, 640x480 seems to be sharper than 320x240.

I can't believe some of the posts that have been made in this thread. The average computer specs nowadays is far superior to the System-on-Chip that the DSTWO is, so no one should expect their video, which plays fine on their computer, to play fine on the DSTWO.

This is because people expect miracles and miracle just don't happen, or are just tards.

Sorry, my bad - you can disable the background (or in other words - make it "invisible") by changing the "Subtitle Alpha" option to 100, though it only comes into effect upon restarting the DS.
Still no background color changing, though I couldn't care less. I'm fine as long as I can disable it.

hm...you don't need fat1:/....though I don't know that this would cause your issue. Assuming the files are where the ini is looking I'm not sure what the problem is.

Okay, here's what I've noticed so far. H.264 videos seem to have a bunch of artifacts when played. The sound was okay, and it stayed in synch, but it didn't stay at 24 fps. I'm converting it to xvid and will report back how it plays. Specs of the video:

[*Fansub group*]_OP_Movie_10_[400p][4F5BC364].avi
Video: h.264
Sound: mp3

It's a feature length movie, so I don't know if that affected the playback in any way.

[*Fansub group*]_One_Piece_004_[35E8EC6F].avi
Video: Xvid
Sound: mp3

This is a shorter video (22 minutes). It played back perfectly. No synching issues and no additional encoding was required.

Also, how have you all viewed .mp4 videos? They don't show up on the list of video files for me.

You can throw something through DivX converter using the mobile profile
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the DSTwo?

Not entirely. You can still get higher quality than DPG this way.

Also, I have a request to make. I know this has proven tough for some of you, but could you please refrain from posting results of your playback tests without including as much of the following info as you can?
QUOTE(Rydian @ Nov 11 2010, 09:29 AM)
  • Container
    • Video Codec
      • Resolution
      • FPS
      • Bitrate
    • Audio Codec
      • Channels
      • Sampling Frequency
      • Bitrate
I know it may be tempting to say "avi works fine" or "mkv lags", but that's really not enough to judge by. It's perfectly understandable if you don't know how to get all this info from your media file, but at the BARE MINIMUM we need your video codec (not your container) for your test results to be even remotely helpful. Resolution is also extremely helpful, so we know if you're trying to run SD, HD, or something else.

Just tested it, it works brilliantly.
You can throw something through DivX converter using the mobile profile, the 320x240 resolution has more than enough detail for the small resolution of the DS, and it displays very nicely.
You'll have to change the .divx extension to .avi before it will work.
Honestly? This makes the DStwo the best flashcart for the DS bar none now.

Would you say that 320x240 would look the same (as in the same picture quality) as 640x480?
You can clearly see the difference on the computer, I wonder if the same goes for the DS...

tried a mkv anime in 640x480.. pure lag.. so I downloaded a video converter from the web and transformed it in a 320x240 mpeg4 avi it seems perfect for DS now.. (I have a DSiXL).. I also tried 320x240 xvid avi.. seemed fine at first.. but then I noticed the sound was not synced

I already tried it without fat1:
I wonder what the heck is wrong

I am wondering the same thing, I can't even get this thing to work no matter what I do >.

If a video doesn't seem to play, even though it's format is supported, you may want to check whether it includes an improper VBR audio encoding in the file. Had that happen to me, so I extracted the audio to an uncompressed WAV format, then built a new video using the original video source, and using the extracted WAV and had it compressed with Lame MP3 encoding. Doing so fixed the problem when playing the rebuilt video.

An option I'd like to see in the player, if possible, is a cropped view, where it acts just like full-screen, but the aspect ratio stays the same. For videos with 16:9 or other similar dimensions, it would crop the sides.
