Hacking DSi maximum size of SD Card

When reading the DSi manual I got when preordering it today, I stumbled upon this litte section handling SD card errors and it said: 'It's not possible to copy anything to your SD card if it already contains more than 300 blocks of software.' (roughly translated)

Since I was wondering which size of SD card to get I would like to know what the actual block size of a card formatted for use with the DSi is. In one of those other DSi related topics I picked up the maximum size the DSi could handle would be 16GB. Is this true and would 16GB be equal to 300 blocks?

P.S. Sorry if the answer is obvious - I searched but couldn't find anything.

and there is an sdhc logo. So it should be up to 32 gb? but I have a feeling its 4.

Yes, I've seen the logo in the manual but the sentence about those 300 blocks got me thinking. The maximum size the Wii can handle is also 4GB, isn't it? I have a close feeling it'll be the same because of compatibility.

Yeah, actually -- not to sound rude but -- that was not very helpful as I already knew that it supports SDHC (it's in the manual, duh).

As I said before I wanted to know what the block size of a SD card formatted for the DSi is (which format is it? FAT32?) because, I was irritated by that 300 block max statement in the manual.

1gb in wii is 1000blocks?
if the blocks are equivalent and the 300block thing is right then max sd size is 300k which is obviously wrong

Okay, I know it sounds weird to have a 300 block limit but the manual says so. It would equal to about 77MB (1024 = 256MB) if I got it right which really makes no sense at all.

I think that manual just states that you have to have at least 300 blocks free on the SD card.

It's simple math.

8 blocks = 1mb so 300 blocks/8 blocks = 37.5mb

300 blocks = about 37.5mb

That's exactly why I was confused when I read this in the manual. It just doesn't make any sense that you can't copy anything to the SD card if it contains more than 300 blocks of software or saves.

This has definitely confused me. Maybe they just messed up on a translation? There is no way they'd limit a card to ~300 mb.

i'm not sure what the max is but i've used my 8gb sdhc in the photo chan on jpn dsi and it worked
