I hacked my wii over 5 years ago but haven't been using it much until now. I think the USB stick I used for games was formatted to a specific file type, do I need to reformat it to copy games to it via wii backup manager? Is there a way to just copy/paste games to usb? And I wanted to use my ps4 controllers through USB on USB loader GX, to play classic the retro games I have installed by WAD, but also wii games where there aren't motion controls involved?

Also any general advice about things that have changed/improved? Should I install nintendont, or other useful stuff?

Also any way to play with DS4, and should I install nintendont?

Yes, you should install Nintendont and enjoy all NGC games.

If you plan to use Nintendont with a PS4 Controller it will work "as is", but take note that you must connect it before launching Nintendont.

Oh is Nintendont only for gamecube games? I'm not planning on playing any for a while, what about wii and vritual console retro games with DS4 or DS3?

Use Wii Backup Manager to put games on
Oh so it's still not copy paste? Cool it's still an improvement.
