Hacking DS Touch screen connector replacement?

I recently bought a new housing and touch screen for my DS Lite and everything was going fine, until the point where the touch screens' ribbon plugs into the circuit board.

There's a little flap which my ham hands broke off and it split in two. =/

I figure the DS is shot and I need a new circuit board but I wonder if anyone has ever had any success repairing a problem like that. I looked around a bit online and couldn't find anything. I tried lining everything up and taping the ribbon cable down but that didn't work... the DS powers on and the LCDs come on but there's no touch screen functionality.
