Just to make sure as I am rather new to handhelds in general:

Are there any restrictions in DS games played on DS-Lite opposed to the DSi console?
In other words: Can you play the latest games on a DS lite?

I'm looking to purchase a DS, and I am leaning towards a Lite for the Slot 2 ( GBA ) compatibilty.
But I want to play the latest DS games also.

Is the extra power of the DSi used for anything, besides the cameras?
Are there more drawbacks/ major differences between both systems?

Also as a flashkit, would the Acekard 2i + EZ Flash 3 in 1 be a wise choice?
Thanks everyone!

using the DSI you do lose the slot 2, but at the same time the DSI does get to connect to the eshop, where you can buy/download some games.

it is a good idea to get the acekard 2i as it can be used on the 3ds too...

Well Ill help you.

First off your games are save. Like Pokemon White version for example has DSi features, but it plays fine on my very old DS Phat(You know the very first DS model). But what you are going to miss in Pokemon is the WPA2 support. The DS Lite does NOT have support for more modern security types.

Also, if your buying a flashcard you should take Supercard DSTWO which has a built-in GBA emulator, SNES emulator and many more!(not exactly built in but still it has an extra processor!)

Acekard 2i is also pretty good! And then complete with an Ez-Flash 3 in 1 it should be great!

The Nintendo DSi(XL) also has a nice shop where you can buy overall shitty games(exceptions are not included. There are some great games in there.)

Thanks everybody for the replies!

Regarding to the DSTWO:

My sister has a DSi XL with a DSTWO.
I've tried the GBA emulation and the snes emulation on it.
Some games had glitches/ slowdown.
Is the DSTWO worth the extra money?
Don't know if this is fixed now but, for GBA purposes woud'nt it be better of with a DS Lite + EZ Flash?

Both combinations are around the same price I think.

As I understood, there are SEGA, SNES & NES emulators that work on the DS Lite too?

Nevertheless, I mainly want to use the DS for handheld gaming though, I've got my Wii for the other emulation like SEGA, SNES, NES etc. ( VBA GX )
But it would be nice to be able to use Gameboy and Gameboy color emu's on the DS.

Could someone shed a light on this for me? Experiences, own setups etc.
I would be very gratefull!

Also the price count is also important.

If you don't wanna lose the downloadable games, them get a DSi/DSiXL.

But if your preference is a longer battery and Total compatibility for GBA games, them get a DSlite + Ez-Flash 3 in 1 (and there is the guitar grip accessory, of you like it

As a emulator machine, a DSlite + Ez-Flash 3 in 1 + Acekard was my option

Pretty good NES emulation ( by the awesome NesDS by huiminghao)
Perfect Gameboy emulation with Lameboy
Perfect GBA emulation
Pretty good Mega drive emulation
Pretty good Neogeo emulation
Large homebrew compatibility
and more...

If you want Snes emulation, you will need a DSTWO ....but the emulation have problems too.
