Would it be possible to maybe add a patch that disables the bilinear filtering that occurs when you don't hold start/select to get 1:1 resolution? if we could have nearest or raw/no interpolation instead, that'd be great.
Smea mentioned back on page 17 that it's pretty doable.

At this point I'm just hoping someone skilled like Apache will swoop in to investigate.

Just tested Legend of Zelda Four Sword Anniversary, and it works perfectly.

It's not very good though alone, because it was made for multiplayer :(

I wonder if it's possible to redirect the rom need to be read from cart to somewhere on sd cart? like the things happened with psp.

Question.

So with this approach you can make .cia version of some game and you can point out card to read from (unless specific version of games is used in which case you can load it from SD).

So my question is this.

Could .cia version load rom from flashcard instead as it already looks for one in card reader ?

In other words home menu game file would be something like shortcut. 3DS would treat that homemenu game as started for all intend and purpose (like activity log which would count that game properly) but it would read actual game file from flashcard.

With this you would have neat and tidy home menu screen with all games as .cia files (gba,nes,ds,3ds etc) with caveat that for ds .cias to work you would need to have roms on actual flashcard. Either way with flashcard in 3ds system you either won't need to bring any additional cards for your backups.

It would be amazing to have DS games finally in my activity log.

3ds is not a disc based system it does not use isos the gamecards are .3ds files which are roms the cias stuff from eshop etc

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

also would it be possible to get nds firmware on the 3ds doing this so that way you can boot flash cards that only work on nds and nds lite

I don't get it. What's been stopping you previously?

I am talking about backups. I don't want to go somewhere with 10 ds cards.
If you are using flashcard then flashcard usually is treated as one title. I have like 300h+ in bomberman because that is what my flashcard says when i load it up.

No but after few years of using 3ds it will be fun stuff to check which game was played the most and so on.
Also "who gives a crap" you can literally apply to anything you want in life.
So why do you give crap that i care about something like activity log ?

Personally i love homebrew that looks indistinguishable from original OS making DS games work from 3ds OS instead of flashcard is one of those features i would love to see even despite fact that it would still require flashcard to work.

Agreed. Who gives a crap what a random person on the internet, like myself, thinks? Just my opinion on the activity log. I notice people are obsessed with it and I just don't get it.

Some of us like to track how much time we've sunk into a particular game, i.e. I'm 93 hours into Persona Q and 91 hours into Super Robot Taisen L right now, and neither game is over yet - so now I can recommend them to people as "staying power" games.

So what I'm assuming right now is, is that the games themselves may have to be patched to read from 3DS NAND/SD card/whatever, to run?
If so, how does the DSi Homebrew Channel work? That runs DS homebrew from SD.
And has anyone compared Advance Wars DSi byte for byte and seen what has changed aside from the header? Could we do that same thing to other DS titles?
Any way around the 64MB limit?

  1. Well, maybe, but could it even run properly ?
  2. Bufferoverflow in savedata in Sudoku ? And it reads stuff from SD card ? However, SD card size is limited, and we don't have source for sudokuhax.

  4. No, AFAIK, because TWL_FIRM wouldn't support it and that would break CTR NAND (FAT16).

1. Well, I dunno. Reverse engineering magic!
2. I think there's a few other open source DSi 'sploits.

4. Well, I'd assume a safer option for DS ROMs would be to make some sort of forwarder to load the ROM from the SD... and patch it while it's being run, maybe. I dunno.
