Hacking DS Charging

When is it best to charge your ds. I wanna keep my battery life as long as possible. Is it best to charge when it dies or maybe when the red light comes? or does it not matter?

I would suggest that you use it till the red light come on and the charge it.

According to wikipedia it doesn't suffer the effect of losing life through multiple chargings, but it does say that these batteries lose 20% capacity every year just due to age.

Since the DS uses Li-ion batteries, it doesn't suffer from a memory effect, so charging whenever would be fine. But the best way to go I reckon is to just charge when the red light comes on.

I charge when the light goes red, but unplug it from charging as soon as the charge light goes out ... over-charging is usually terrible for a rechargeable battery.

Overcharging only occurs if something is broken within the DS that doesn't stop the charge once it's complete.

Like the rest, I only charge when I see the red light.

So overcharging wont hurt it? Once the ds is fully charged it wont let anything else in?

it wont over charge, it shuts off when it reaches 100%

It's true. Unless the battery/current controller is broken, it won't overcharge. You can tell when the charging light turns off.

I charge my DS every night before bed. There is nothing so frustrating as turning on my DS at the beginning of my lunch hour at work only to see the red light, or have it come on ten minutes into a game.

the manual states to charge it wen the red light comes on. don't believe me? read it. also, as stated from previous users, unless your battery is broken, the ds will not overcharge. i usually charge everyday or 2 days. i don't rly care its not on red, cuz i just don't lol.
