I've been playing it for a couple of days now............and I can say this game is really good !
The first runaway ( dream of the turtle ) for the DS ( which is the second in the series ) was pretty cool, but there is a reason I didn't play it ( beyond me being busy playing the Ace Attorneys games )...it felt like a bad port.
They tried to make it nice on the DS, but besides the user interface which feels a little clumsy, the biggest problem was the graphic actually.
Although the game had great artwork, you could tell that the whole screen was scaled down from the PC version to fit on the DS, and they tried to overcome this by zooming in and out of the screen by holding the stylus on it for a second or two.
It didn't feel natural, and by the way, by zooming in you actually get to see 1:1 pixel aspect ratio and you appreciate the artwork just the way it was meant to be ( on the larger PC screen ) but it really felt like I was playing something on ScummVMDS........
Now this new title.....you can tell it's being superbly ported to the DS !
Even though the cut scenes are highly compressed with unavoidable loss of quality ( but really considered the amount of dialogs and movies they crammed into the system you can't really complain ) this time around the graphics are not scaled down from the PC version, it feels like they took the source material and re-sampled it with the DS resolution in mind.........the result is outstanding, is the best looking adventure game for the DS ( it's kind of similar to broken sword, but better since is not as old and dated ) and all the characters are so well animated and really fit with the background as they looks as part of it. It really feels like you are playing an animated movie !
Also the user interface is so much better.........no more zooming in and out, but if you hold the stylus on the screen you get little glowing dots that discretely give you hints about objects that you can interact with, and the closer you are the brighter they become.
So it's a really well thought out system, and if you get stuck there is also an online hint system that helps you a great deal without revealing to much and without punishing you by limiting or counting the hints used.
So I'm very happy so far, I wish there was more quality content like this on the DS, I still feel that it's the perfect platform for this kind of games ( the only draw back in my opinion is the low resolution of the screen, which makes it difficult to make a straight port from the PC ).
And I miss the Ace Attorney style animated conversations, like..........words..........coming out......LITTLE BY LITTLE !
But really, for an adventure game can't do much better then this.
