Here, most of our air controllers come out of my studies (English history, language & culture). Most of them are into drugs (pot mostly).

Fantastic game, totally recommended.

I played Boku ha Koukuu Kanseikan DS when it first came out in Japan and I’m still stuck on the last couple of stages... be warned it can get very difficult.

Sleeper hit?? DAMN SKIPPY!! I play this at 4am to fall asleep!

I have played level 1 about 18 times now... I just can't seem to stay awake long enough to finish it...

I've played during the day, only to wake up 3 hours later with a dead DS, a trail of drool down my chin, and wondering who tried to date rape me, only to realize, I was playing Air Traffic Chaos! Wait... WTF?? CHAOS?? What CHAOS?!? What fucking CHAOS can there be when you have 2 runways, 4 terminals, and like 5 planes all day? Seriously... what chaos is there? I could see if there were like 5 planes circling the runway, 3 on the gound, and 6 trying to take off... yea, that's chaos... but when there's 1 on the ground, and that's it... WHERE THE HELL IS MY CHAOS?!? If I didn't pirate the fuck out of this game, I'd take it back, and demand more CHAOS!!

Well, first airport on rookie difficult is not very chaotic, indeed. But on higher levels of diccifult there are more planes approaching, and you need a fast turnover at gates...

And remember that it is a sort of puzzlegame, not a simulator like Falcon 4.0

Yeah the third level of the first airport gets pretty hectic when the planes start circling in the sky like vultures cause the guys in the terminal won't fucking clear out. The passengers start their Jet-Blue-ish mutinies...

This game oozes win. Nice and relaxing on the rookie and novice levels, brutal on the expert ones. You think you're doing well then some jumbo flies in to the holding pattern wiping everyone out, have they no eyeballs?

I for one think its a great game, not everyones cup a tea i guess !

It can get annoying though as someone above said then waiting for departures to move out, so slowwww.

Anyway its just plain silly to not buy this game simply because you don't like the box art
angry.gif

And as for 9/11 , i personally couldn't give a sh*T about that even when i was watching it live on tv BUT i can understand how other people think about it... not a topic for this game though!!

Anyway one of the better games on the ds, shame sim city wasn't as good.

This game is awesome! So simple but awesome. Annoying though how slow the planes are while preparing to take off. Takes FOREVER. What I really hate is that the tug must move ALL THE WAY BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION, before the plane starts moving...

I pre-ordered this game on amazon.ca after playing the demo on the wii Nintendo Channel.
I'm a Flight Service Specialist at Sept-Iles airport. I also have a commercial pilot license.

I thought this game seemed to offer a good balance of fun and realism. I'm really eager to try out the full version. I read somewhere it had 8 players local wireless ?!

Now I can work busy traffic on slow midnight shifts...

Yes, it gets pretty annoying =_='

At higher levels, thing are much complicated, mainly because you have a limite number of gates, sometimes divided for international and national flights, and even with a maximum number of 8 flights it becomes difficult to coordinate them, at least if you want to have a smooth turnover, or if you try to avoid collision on taxiways
tongue.gif

Is important to park a plane on a taxiway, to clear a runway or to keep a free path from runway to a gate for an incoming plane..

With the continuous incoming planes, it's simple to mess up something like a permission to takeoff right when you gave clearance for landing, and some moments before the turn ends =_='

Looking from the outside, it's a simple sorting game, if we want, in wich we have to move some sliders in order to avoid overlapping of events; if the interface would have been in form of GANTT diagrams, with moving bars the entire task should have been piece of cake:

visio-gantt-chart.jpg

But with this interface, it's satisfying to see a plane landing without crashing on another taking off, and you can proudly think at those pixels inside the aircraft, that will safely go trough those tiny gates to their invisible little pixel relatives

Boxart complaints are totally respectable, since "normal" people will look at the boxart before they buy.

Pretty fun so far, the only grudge I have is that it feels like all the planes fly without pilots.

"Go to Gate 4... Oh wait I didn't mean to double tap the choose gate button, I wanna assign you to a different gate! Freaking hell, ground collision. How can you bump into a totally stationary gigantic piece of metal when you're snailing across the taxiway, legally blind or away-from-cockpit?"

Yeah, I'd wish pilots would say "Hey ATC, that gate is taken I can see it from all the way over here, what are you thinking?"
instead of "Okay, I know there is a plane stationed in that gate and I know I'm gonna bump into it if I keep going but since ATC said so I'm gonna push my luck and pray that the quantum mechanics would kick in and I'll park at Gate 4 without harm"

Not quite sure why a game about air traffic control should be stopped from being released on 9/11 - it was a bunch on Afgan's who flew a plane into the WTC, not some air traffic controllers playing a DS.

It's not something that should be forgotten but trying to link it with something like this really is sad and irresponsible.

That's what people want you to believe, or people want to believe. But if it were some inside job, whoever's in charge would have committed suicide out of guilt - at least I wouldn't be able to live with that.

AAAAAAAAAAnyways... back to topic...

I love causing mid-air collisions... just wish they would show a flaming wreck and people running around screaming!! Only way to make this game better would have been that!

People have mentioned being amused by the phrase "I am an air traffic controller!" given by the bug-eyed thumb-upping loon on the cover of the box. Yet nobody's pointed out the deeper, more unseemly side of what I found to be a somewhat obvious implication given by both title and boxart.

"Air Traffic CHAOS!" is the title of the game. Not "Air Traffic Controller". People seem to be overlooking that word "chaos" there. And we all know what "chaos" can ensue from airplanes! This game is about CHAOS, not CONTROL! But WHY is there chaos concerning air traffic? Because this INSANE MAN is the ATC! This insane man who's looking up at the ceiling over there and proudly stating that he "am an air traffic controller!" as if ATCs need to routinely express that they are, indeed, ATCs.

The real story behind this game is not a simulation game, it is about this man on the cover, an insane bastard who shouldn't be let out of the asylum let alone anywhere near sharp/flammable objects or airport terminals. This guy is MANICALLY INSANE. You can just tell from his look and the word "CHAOS" in the title that this man on the cover is not our hero. This man on the cover may spell our doom through possibly hallucinogenic incompetence.

Anyways, what I found lacking in this game was the presence of Thomas Hayden Church. What is an ATC without an airport, and what is an airport without a mechanic?

From Majesco's website after registering my game:

Air Traffic Chaos Gameplay Hints

1. Make sure to keep an eye on the wind sock. Attempting to land a plane in a tailwind may cause the pilot to abort.
2. Don't be afraid to keep planes in a holding pattern. This is a great way to keep the airport clear of traffic.
3. Use empty terminals wisely. By occupying the ones furthest from the runways first, the closer terminals will be available when things get hectic.
4. Having a Rumble Pak attached to the DS comes in handy. The Rumble Pak will rumble every time an airplane takes off or lands, letting you know when you canÊassign a gate.
5. Never take your eyes off of the planes circling overhead. You may need to adjust a specific plane's speed in order to avoid a mid-air collision.
6. Whenever a plane blinks red, it needs your attention.Ignoring planes for too long will increase your stress meter.
7. Always monitor the speed of incoming planes. They can easily crash into planes already circling above if you are not paying attention.
8. Always determine the gate of a landed plane as quickly as possible. Not choosing a gate fast enough can raise the stress meter quickly.
9. Be careful when selecting which runway to take off on.If you choose a runway on the left, the plane will back out to the right.Ê If you choose a runway on the right, your plane will back out to the left. Knowing this can be helpful in avoiding ground collisions.
10. You cannot clear a plane to taxi to the runway until the push back tow tractor has parked.
11. If you want to collect all the bonus badges, you'll have to do some experimentation. Not all bonus badges are based on good performance.
12. An airport may have separate gates for domestic (Japanese) and international flights, so pay attention to the radio to determine the flight type.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

It does that when I edit a post.

@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
