It wasn't long since Korea lifted the ban on ALL Japanese culture thingies. You know, Japan tried to erase everything that was/is Korean during the occupation between 1910-1945. (People wasn't even allowed to keep their names.)

Now they allow for at least *some* Japanese culture to enter Korea. That is, South Korea.

"South Korea had banned Japanese cultural imports since the end of the occupation, but a part of the ban was recently lifted. Recently, music, Manga and Anime, TV dramas and novels, translations or adaptations of Japanese works are seeing explosive sales in South Korea. Japanese literature is the most translated foreign literature in South Korea. Novels by writers like Haruki Murakami, Banana Yoshimoto, Kaori Ekuni are very popular. Staring with the Japanese novel frenzy, Japanese pop culture is making inroads into the Korean cultural content market as well. For instance, the recent hit movie 200-pound Beauty and the Korean television drama The Great White Tower are both based on original Japanese versions. The Japanese animation movie Howl's Moving Castle drew 3,000,000 viewers in the South Korean market."
